The Plots Thicken: the Return of Grimm and Mysteries Deepen on Warehouse 13
Grimm, Monday 10:00 EST, NBC
The welcome return of the show began with a replay of the last scene from the season one finale, where Nick’s mom shows up. Certainly Nick was as surprised as the rest of us to see her. There was some discussion here in the column after the finale, regarding how both Nick and his mom could be active Grimms at the same time. Given what his mom had to say about she went hunting with her father and her sister, Aunt Marie, it seems that there can indeed be more than one Grimm from the same bloodline at a time. Read More »

Warehouse 13, Monday 9:00 EST, SyFy
The show came back strong, and two things I suspected turned out to be true. First, the team raced to find a way to turn back time to before the bomb in order to prevent the destruction of the warehouse. Second, we learned that Mrs. Frederic is indeed organically connected to the warehouse – a very interesting idea that I hope we hear more about later. Read More »

Watchers, after five seasons of an admittedly very unique premise, the whimsical and wonderful Eureka ended its run. I know there was much consternation over much of the season leading up to the end, so I will address some of that kerfuffle first.
I will admit to being taken aback by the first episode of this season – up until the end when we saw that the Astraeus crew had been kidnapped and everything we had just seen in the episode was in the minds of the people hooked into a machine. I really thought that was pretty cool. Read More »

Watchers, this week we will discuss some of the movies in theaters this summer. There may be spoilers for the movies with titles in bold, so please be aware of this if you haven’t seen them yet but plan to. Also, please do not include any spoilers in your comments about any other movies not featured in the column, as there are some I haven’t seen yet.
Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter
This movie gives an alternate-history version of the life of Abraham Lincoln, and does so with great success, I think. As a child, Abe witnesses the death of his mother, though he doesn’t understand until much later the nature of the creature that killed her. Read More »

In addition to the crazy goings-on in Bon Temps, we will also check in with the denizens of Eureka and the fae community of Lost Girl.
True Blood, Sundays 9:00 EST, HBO
So, at long last the wild and wacky world of True Blood has returned to the screen. A lot has happened in just two weeks: vampire Tara (with Pam as her maker), Bill and Eric captured twice and rescued once (by Eric’s “sister,” a very loose term), Sam just barely escaping death at the hands of Marcus’ pack, and the political maneuvering of the Vampire Authority. Grimm finale
The last few episodes leading up to the finale had been building up to Juliet and Hank learning more about the supernatural world and Nick’s involvement in it. By the finale, we know that Hank realizes he has been seeing things that he finds it hard to believe in, but he also noted in an earlier episode that Portland sure was getting weird. Do you think that he will learn the truth early in Season 2?

Fringe, Friday 9:00 EST, Fox
The last few episodes of Fringe ranged from an unsettling look at an Observer-ruled 2036, to the bridge between the universes being closed, and finally, to a last-ditch effort on Walter’s part to solve an immediate problem.

Watchers, I’m sorry for disappearing for a week. Technology issues caused me some problems. I am also behind on a few shows (the ones not discussed), but will be caught up for next week’s column.
Grimm, Friday 9:00 EST, NBC
First off, let me say that is sure seems as though Portland is full of vessen, doesn’t it?
In the last two episodes we have discovered that Grimms are valuable to the seven houses of Royals, which hasn’t really been explained yet, and have seen Nick really moving into his role, such as training physically and writing his own notes in the books in the trailer. Read More »

Fringe, Friday 9:00 EST, Fox
Wow – these last two episodes have certainly kept us on our toes, haven’t they, Watchers?
Most importantly, we learned that the bridge between the two universes has helped to stabilize the alt-verse, and seems to have been doing some good for the other side, as well. This is, of course, great news, but also makes me wonder about where things are headed. Read More »

Watchers, my apologies – I have had so much going on the past couple of weeks that I was unable to keep up with all of the shows or get to the writing. We have a lot to catch up on! Do keep in mind that all of the discussions here will include spoilers. That said, please do not refer to events in episodes beyond those under discussion so as to avoid spoilers.
Being Human, Monday 9:00 EST, SyFy
The last two episodes of this show have certainly put our three favorite roomies through the wringer. Aidan has been cut off from the vampire community, Sally discovered what happens to shredded ghosts, and just as she saw Josh’s secret, Julia was struck by a car. Read More »

Being Human, Monday 9:00 EST, SyFy
First off, didn’t you feel great for Meaghan Rath getting to wear different clothes for once? How did you like the house décor? Those couch pillows with eyes were cool and creepy at the same time, I thought. On a serious note, I did think that this was probably the best episode yet this season.
So, despite their individual problems and issues with each other, the guys managed to band together and get Zoe to help Sally. As we saw at the end, though, Sally will have to learn how to live with and suppress the darkness inside of her. Read More »

Watchers, being gone for a week resulted in too many shows to catch up on in just a few days, so this week we will cover just three shows, and next week I will add the others back in. Also, Supernatural returns on Friday, 3/16.

Watchers, we have a lot to catch up on this time, since I did not post a column last week (my apologies).
Fringe, Friday 9:00 EST, Fox
First, let me say that this show continues to blow my mind, just about every single week. I also want to mention that the last episode was written by David Fury, who was a producer/writer on both Buffy and Angel.
The last two episodes have actually provided us with a few answers. When Olivia was starting to get her memories back, you could see the fear in Peter’s eyes – was he afraid she wasn’t his Olivia, or that she was? I think it was likely a bit of both. Read More »

Watchers, our shows are continuing to bring us great episodes, but it takes a few days to get through them all. I am still not yet caught up on The Walking Dead, but will make an effort towards that soon, and should be caught up with The Secret Circle by next week.
Once Upon a Time, Sunday 8:00 EST, ABC
Wow. This episode was my favorite so far. Dark and emotional, and full of surprises – that’s how I like them. Jane Espenson wrote this one (former Buffy writer/producer who still writes for lots of good shows). Read More »

Watchers, I swear the writers must stay up all night and never sleep to come up with some of these twists and turns! I love the route the show has taken from Season 2 on, when the story arc became more complicated and interesting.
In this episode we got to once again move back and forth between worlds, and also learn a bit more about these places that may not be the same as the ones we originally saw. Read More »

Once Upon a Time, Sunday 8:00 EST, ABC
First off, Watchers, I’d like to mention that this episode was written by Jane Espenson, one of the writers/producers on Buffy. She also works on Warehouse 13.
How cool was it to get Rumpelstiltskin’s story? What a wrenching tale that was, and a great opportunity for Robert Carlisle to show his range. The juxtaposing of his story with that of Emma and Henry was very effective, I thought.

Neverland, SyFy Mini-series
I had an interesting response to Neverland – I liked it at first, then I wasn’t sure, then I kind of didn’t, but at the end I liked it quite a bit. I thought it was a bit too dark in parts, and kind of left out the sense of wonder that I have always associated with the story. I really liked the character Fox, and we know how that ended up. Ultimately, I felt as though the show served as an interesting prequel to the story we are all familiar with. Now I want to watch the animated Disney film again, which I haven’t seen in years.

Watchers, seven episodes of each of these two shows have now aired, and I want to hear what you think of them. Myself, I am thrilled that there are two really good shows on major networks that revolve around fairy tale and folklore characters.
Grimm, Friday 9:00 EST, NBC
The last two episodes of Grimm have continued along in the same vein, yet have also given us some additional background on a few of the characters. We have learned more about Monroe, who continues to be entertaining as well as interesting, and we have watched Hank in action, enabling us to see a bit more about what drives him.
