Screen Bites: The Plots Thicken: the Return of Grimm and Mysteries Deepen on Warehouse 13

The Plots Thicken: the Return of Grimm and Mysteries Deepen on Warehouse 13

Grimm, Monday 10:00 EST, NBC

The welcome return of the show began with a replay of the last scene from the season one finale, where Nick’s mom shows up. Certainly Nick was as surprised as the rest of us to see her. There was some discussion here in the column after the finale, regarding how both Nick and his mom could be active Grimms at the same time. Given what his mom had to say about she went hunting with her father and her sister, Aunt Marie, it seems that there can indeed be more than one Grimm from the same bloodline at a time. Perhaps when one dies another gets activated, which was why Marie came to Nick. Was anyone else kind of shocked to learn that Nick’s mom found out about her special ability at the age of ten?

We also found out a bit more about the royal families and their connection to the Grimms — that their ancestors used to control the Wesen that fought for the families. That piece of information explains Nick’s captain’s interest in him, but it’s still unclear as to exactly what he wants with him. What do you think is going on?

Poor Hank — for his sake, I really do hope he gets let in on the big secret this season, so he doesn’t lose his mind.

I got a kick out of how the show is trying to hide Bree Turner’s real-life pregnancy. I’m sure we’ll see more clever approaches as the season progresses.

My favorite line: “Dude, to be honest, your mother scares the crap out of me!” (Monroe to Nick).

Did you have a favorite moment from this episode?

*I believe that the show will air on Mondays for four more weeks, then move to Friday at 9.

Warehouse 13, Monday 9:00 EST, SyFy

In this week’s episode, the teams switched partners, mostly because Artie wanted Pete to keep an eye on Claudia. We know why Artie is worried, but no one else does — yet. Speaking of Claudia, she has other troubles, given her connection with Steve. Now that Myka knows about the situation, I imagine Claudia will find out soon enough.

Does anyone else find it disturbing to see Brent Spiner playing a sort-of bad guy? He wants Artie to completely fall in line with his dictates, but won’t explain why. I actually wouldn’t put it past him to be giving Artie the vision about Claudia. What do you think may be going on?

My favorite line: “Throw in some violent, deadly marbles and Harry Potter becomes Full Metal Jacket” (Pete).

What do you think of the season so far?

So love how the first episode of the season picked up from where they left off in the season finalie. The actress that plays Nick’s mother seems familiar and I can not pinpoint how I know her.

But yes, I love Monroe’s first meeting with Nick’s mom, how Nick had to pry her off him. Do believe even she’s sort of startled or taken aback by her son’s approach on being Grimm. Don’t think she or Marie ever thought of befriending them.

Especially when she seen how Nick’s two friends worked to save Nick’s love. I did love Nick’s mom’s meeting with the witch.

As for the captain I am still uncertain… He has to be something more going on that we are not aware of. Hopefully this season will learn more.

    • Yes, Raonaid, Nick’s mom did seem quite surprised to learn that Monroe and Rosalie were his friends. However, Marie did tell Nick in the very beginning that they were not all “bad,” or to be feared. Perhaps Mom does not subscribe to that philosophy…

  2. Grimm

I was so happy to see Grimm back! And I’m glad they addresse the whole “active” Grimm thing. I’m not sure what made all of us thing there was only one at a time. But clearly now we know it isn’t true. I was thinking the same thing as you, that when Marie died, Nick started seeing things.

Or did he start seeing everything because it was just his time and Marie came back to tell him about Grimms when she realized she was dying. His mother did say girls start seeing before boys.

As for Nick’s mom, I think she’s hiding something. To show up now, saying she was following the Wesen and that’s how she found Nick. But she knew about other more obscure things. I don’t know.

And I do feel bad for poor Hank! Somethings got to give or else he’s going to snap. Even more!

I’m still trying to figure out WHAT the captain is. Clearly by the way others treat him he ranks really high and might be old. And why everyone else seems fine to kill Nick, but he wants him alive for something.

I actually didn’t know Bree Turner was pregnant. But I expect she will be carrying a lot of large packages and standing behind a lot of tall desks!

Favorite part. Right after meeting his mother when Monroe says how at his last reunion they lost 2 cousins and a sheepdog. But nobody missed the cousins.

But I hate the new narration at the beginning! It feels forced and the voice is wrong. If they were going to do it the should have used the voice of Aunt Marie.

I finally caught up with Warehouse 13!

I thought the final conversation with Brother Adrian was strange. After Artie explained what was happening in the world, he was still angry.I mean it was either possible future evil or no world. So there’s definitely something more going on with that organization. I’m wondering how they got into the Warehouse to take the marbles?

And we got a Sam Worthington fix in this episode!

    • Ugh, I meant Sam HUNTINGTON not Worthington! Apparently typing without thinking happens when one starts a giant rant!

    • Rae, I agree that it was really nice to see Sam Huntington on Warehouse 13. And yes, there is definitely something off about the priest character.

I do think you’re right about Nick’s mom — she seems to know something she isn’t sharing. Also, the way she asked for the coins seemed suspect to me.

As far as the “seeing” goes, I imagine that is was part Marie being at the end of her life and it being Nick’s “time,” and the two may be intertwined.

I think it’s pretty clear that the captain is a royal, but how high up and what his endgame is has not yet been shared with us. They want to keep us guessing…

I did like that passage you said was your favorite. Monroe always gets the best lines.

  3. I LOVE GRIMM!!!! the mother has been in robin hood movies, this is 1 of my fav shows

  4. We caught a few episodes on vacation in Mississippi, and I LOOOOOOVED Grimm!! I’m hoping to snag the DVD of season 1 and get caught up. Or, you know, see it on Netflix. : )

    • Jackie, Grimm is a lot of fun. I hope you can catch up soon and start watching the new season, as well.

  5. Donna/BLHmistress

I watched a couple episodes of Grimm and Warehouse 13 and loved them both but I keep forgetting on when they are on to keep watching.

    • Donna, right now Grimm airs on Monday at 10 on NBC (that will change to Friday at 9 in a few weeks) and W13 is one Monday at 9 on SyFy.

  6. Grimm was one of my fav new shows last year. I was tickled to death to see that it was starting up again!

  7. I’ve yet to watch any of Warehouse 13 this season. But the kids go back to school on the 27th and then Bubble Guppies and Mickey Mouse will no longer interfere with MY screen time!

  8. I haven’t seen either, and this is the first time I’ve heard about Grimm. What is it about?

    • Dovile, “Grimm” refers to a special group of people who have the ability to see the supernatural creatures underneath the human form they present to the world. The main charcater is a detective in Portland who has befriended on of the Wesen (the supernatural).

  9. I loved the premiere of Grimm! It started off with a BANG-right where is left off with Nick finding out his mom (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) is very much alive. I think she is going got kick some major butt this season! I also love the new opening.

    • Lisa, I kind of like the new opening, also, as it gves those who have never seen the show a bit of background.

  10. I love the opening of Grimm. It was great to see Nicks mom is going to be a reall kick ass woman. Mom might have been following the Wensen but something just does not add up with me! I like the quote you put down and as usual I have nothing that I can remember.
I did not see Warehouse 13. I hope to see a rerun of it, I know there will be a time it shows again.

  11. I sometimes find myself wondering why I watch Grimm. There’s sooo much going on, so many secrets and I feel like I haven’t learned much of anything in the past season. Still have hopes though!

  12. so Grimm is back with episode 2 of the new season tonight. I am anxious to see what happens with Juliet and also I am wondering why Nick’s mother kept her survival a secret from him. Is she hiding something? I am sure there are some secrets she has hidden.

  13. Sharon Manning-Lew

My son turned me on to Grimm, so I’m playing catch up. Warehouse 13 has had some interesting twists and turns.

  14. Yeah! School has started back and I can watch Lost Girl & Grimm without fearing that I’ll scar the grandbabies!

  15. I am so addicted to Grimm. Watching it as I type this comment!

  16. Heather Alexander

I love Grimm, I want his partner for know what is going on, I think it would be easier. My god when is he going to finally figure out about the chief of police too?? Just watched tonights episode and won’t comment, in case anyone hasn’t seen it yet, but crap on toast that sucks. Just saying.LOL

  17. I finally watched the episode of Grimm and I think this season is going to be even better! I love Monroe, I hope he is even more involved this time around.

  18. I absolutely LOVE Grimm !!! It’s one of the best shows on TV other than True Blood. I also love Lost Girl and Alphas.

  19. To be honest I haven’t really watched either show. I tend to keep my head buried in a book instead of the television most of the time, but Warehouse 13 sounds interesting.

  20. Yeah, I keep wondering myself if they will let Hank in on what’s going on before he goes off the deep end.

  21. I love Warehouse 13 and definitely am enjoying the background mysteries.

  22. Love that Grimm got a jump on all the other fall shows

  23. I have been meaning to check out Grimm.

  24. OMG… I have waited the whole summer to end so Grimm will come back. The second season started with a very good plot. This is NBC’s best series ever.

  25. I haven’t seen either of these shows. Nice recap.
