Have you missed me, Watchers? My apologies for the long absence. Other concerns kept me away from the column, and some of the shows we typically discuss here I am still behind on, but wanted to touch on a few. *Spoilers will abound, so do not read further if you have not seen the first two episodes of these series.
Grimm, Friday 9:00 EST, NBC
After the last season’s finale shocker, with Nick losing his Grimm powers/abilities and Renard shot, the show came back strong, picking up right where it left off.
I like Trubel, but to be honest, I don’t think they will be able to sustain the show for too long without Nick regaining his status. I do like the touch of adding in a young Grimm, though, and wonder how long she will continue, or if she will strike out on her own.
Monroe and Rosalee certainly demonstrate true friendship by skipping their honeymoon to help Nick. I do like that they decided to continue looking for a way to cure Nick, despite Juliet asking them to back off. Juliet at some point will realize that not only has being a Grimm become an integral part of Nick’s character, but also that without his powers he will not be able to protect himself.
I am very intrigued by the last scene of the second episode, with Nick and Adalind experiencing seeing through each other’s eyes.
What do you think of the season so far?
Constantine, Friday 10:00 EST, NBC
*Disclaimer* I have never read the Hellblazer comics, but did enjoy the movie Constantine several years ago. As far as I’m concerned, the show is an independent entity, so my observations will be based upon the show itself, without any reference to the other incarnations of the character.
Of all of the new shows this season, this was the one I was most looking forward to, and I have been enjoying it. I thought the first episode was a great start to set the stage, and they handled the departure of Lucy Griffith’s character very effectively.
So far, John strikes me as the type of urban fantasy anti-hero that we occasionally see in books. What do you think?
I am very curious about his friend, Chas, and look forward to learning more.
How do you like the show so far?
What new genre shows have you been watching? I have been enjoying The Flash and Forever
Next time, we will return to Supernatural.
Happy Viewing!

I have to agree, I don’t think they can go too long without Nick regaining his “grimness”. Since Trubel was in the foster system and I think she does not know anything about her parents, do you think it’s possible she could end up being Nick’s sister? Nick’s mom wouldn’t have hesitated to abandon a younger child to the foster system if she thought that was the only way to keep her safe. And she does have that same dark hair as Nick. I’ve also wondered how long they can go on without bringing Wu into the loop.
Lisa, that’s a really good question. Nick and Trubel do look a bit a like, so you may well be on to something. Or, they can at least be related.
I’m glad you mentioned poor Wu-I think it is about time for him to be read in, given that it may actually help them on cases, as well.
I really enjoy Grimm but if there’s one thing I don’t like about the show it’s the time that it often takes for them to bring people into the “Scooby Gang”. I thought it took too long before Juliette was brought in and I’m feeling the same way now about Wu.
True, Kevin. The motivation for keeping Juliet in the dark was understandable (protection), but it did go on a bit too long. In the case of Wu, I think we will see him in on everything within the next few episodes.
I hope so and like others have mentioned I also hope that Nick gets his Grimm powers back soon as well. Let’s move past the internal angst plots and get to the real big bads.
I’m enjoying Grimm coming back, and I agree, Trubel was a great addition last year, but some of her choices so far just annoyed me as stupid for someone who’s stayed alive this long. Though I did appreciate the octopus head’s ending, without going into details. I do agree that the show needs Nick with his powers and yes ditto on Monroe and Rosalie choices. I found myself actually wanting to smack Juliet with that choice. I acknowledge her point but the wesen in Portland are in much better shape than most in the world because of Nick. The good ones have a champion, the bad ones a judge.
Constantine, its still early so I’m willing to give it some leeway. First episode was ok. Lots of things weren’t gelling to me. Much preferred second episode, though there are still some weaknesses. Will see if time will get us past those.
Kelley, I agree completely about “Octopus-Head’s” resolution-that was perfect.
I do like Constantine a lot, but am not to the point of loving it yet. I do believe the show has potential, and hope it gets a chance to develop that.
I haven’t watched either one yet…still waiting for the return of LOST GIRL (though it worked my last good nerve a bit last year) and THE ALMIGHTY JOHNSONS…
Trix, hopefully you know that The Almighty Johnsons returned this week, on Wednesday and Thursday.
I am SO happy Grimm is back!!!!!!! I am having hard time getting into Constatine
I’ll give Constantine a few more episodes (there haven’t been many shows I was instantly in love with) but I’m just kind of half-interested so far. I really like the main guy, though. I’m wondering if maybe the second episode was supposed to be further along in the season because of what they did as far as totally changing the main female character?
Have enjoyed the return of Grimm, even if Nick is not a Grimm at the moment. I am sure he will regain his powers since it appears that he and Adalind are linked because of the spell she did (which gives me hope since spells can be reversed). I feel Wu would be in the loop already if they weren’t so tight about Nick not being a Grimm. Loved that the Octupus guy got Trubell’s memories causing him nightmares. Now we know what goes thru a Grimm’s head. As for Constantine, it took the second episode with the Miner ghost to get me intrigued especially with the reference to gypsy Romanian background. I also didn’t read the Hellboy comics but I do know there was a lot of reference to demons.etc. As for the new shows, I like the Flash better than Arrow because of the presentation of the shows plus the two appear that they are going to overlap storylines occasionally.
Maria Rose, I agree about the result of the octopus-head taking Trubel’s memories-that was a nice touch.
Constantine has been on my radar, as I’m a fan of DC comics, I’m currently watching Gotham and catching up on Arrow and plan to watch Flash too, but I just don’t know about Constantine. I think I’ll better catch up on Supernatural.
Never been a fan of Grimm but loving Constantine thus far. Not an uber fan of the comics but I have read a few here and there and loved Keanu in the movie (even though it was nothing like the comics, I don’t care, I love the man :)) Hoping it gathers more audience so it lasts more than one season.
See, I was not really impressed with the movie Constantine. The only actor in that I liked was Rachel Weiss’s… However, I am loving who they have playing him on the series…… I have never read the comics so…
Hubby was not impressed with the first episode but he said the second one is so much better.
Not caught up on Grimm yet…
I’d heard about Constantine, but not much. I’ll have to maybe check it out. Thanks for the post!
Sorry, I haven’t watched it yet… still busy with Constantine
I enjoy the Grim. Ive watched two Constantine episodes and did not care for it .
