Bitten by Books Screen Bites: Looking Back, and Looking Forward – Just like Dr. Who

Looking Back, and Looking Forward – Just like Dr. Who (Carol)

Greetings, Watchers. I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season – it isn’t over yet.

Last week I said I was planning to watch “A Christmas Carol” for the first time in a few years. As it turned out, I ended up watching a completely different version: the Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol, broadcast this weekend on BBC America. Read More »

Bitten by Books Screen Bites: A Little Sadness, Lots of Cheer: Fringe and Eureka

Fringe, Friday 9:00 p.m., Fox (Carol)
I loved this episode! Couldn’t you just feel Olivia’s despair as she went through her apartment for her clothes and bedding, throwing them in the washer and ultimately collapsing on the floor sobbing? Anna Torv hit the mark perfectly portraying someone suffering from the ultimate identity theft, with everyone, including the man she is in love with, not guessing the truth.

Bitten by Books Screen Bites - Marching Toward the End: The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead, Sunday 10:00 p.m. EST, AMC (Brit)

I have to say I liked the episode tonight much better than last week. There was more drama and action.I think what caught my attention the most (which I never noticed before) were the sound effects. Pretty disgusting, and I kept expecting to see a comic book style dialogue box saying, SPLOOSH, GURK or SPLUK.

Bitten by Books Screen Bites - Slow Beginnings and Cliffhangers: The Walking Dead and Fringe

The Walking Dead, Sunday 10:00 p.m. EST, AMC (Brit)

The Walking Dead has been renewed for another season. The plan is to air the new season this time next year. Call me crazy, but that seems like a huge amount of time to wait when the series has such good ratings. Will people still be interested after a year has passed, or will the show lose the momentum it has gained?

Bitten by Books Screen Bites - Zombies, Shapeshifters, and Creepy Typewriters: The Walking Dead and Fringe

The Walking Dead, Sunday 10 p.m. EST (Brit)

This episode began with Merle, the redneck, chained to the roof with Walkers trying desperately to break through the door. I was surprised to feel a little sympathy for him because I know he is mean and nasty and will cause all kinds of devastation when he is freed. So I am actually a little disgusted with myself.

Bitten by Books Screen Bites - We Lose One, We Gain One: The Gates and The Walking Dead, and More Todd Craziness

No More “The Gates” (Carol)

Well, folks, it appears that The Gates has been officially canceled, according to reports from the show’s actors. I am really sorry about this. Though it was not my favorite, I hate to see any decent genre show get the axe. I liked that the show used a combination of hidden and open supernatural worlds. Read More »

Bitten by Books Screen Bites - An Ending and a Beginning: Haven and Todd and the Book of Pure Evil

Greetings, watchers. This week we will discuss the season finale of Haven, and take a look at a new show north of the border.

Haven, SyFy (Brit)

The season finale aired Friday, and this week SyFy announced that the show renewed for a second season. I thought the last episode was great. It was full of twists and turns and shocking revelations.

Bitten by Books Screen Bites - True Blood and Haven

Greetings, Watchers. This week we have two goodies for you: True Blood and Haven.

True Blood, 9:00 p.m. EST Sunday, HBO (Carol)

So, I have just come off of a marathon viewing of Seasons One and Two of True Blood over the last couple of weeks. I love the show, and would like to share my thoughts and observations regarding the visual version of Sookie’s world. As you read this, please keep in mind that at the time of this writing I have only seen Seasons One and Two of the show and have only read the corresponding first two books of the series.
