Wicked Ride by Rebecca Zanetti Character Interview with Kellach Dunne

Hi all! My name is Rebecca Zanetti, and I write the Dark Protector and Realm Enforcer books. I thought it’d be fun to have Kellach Dunne interviewed here today. He’s the hero in Wicked Ride, which released on June 23rd. Kell is an enforcer for the Coven Nine in Ireland, and he’s on a mission in the states to track down a dangerous drug called Apollo. The drug kills both humans and witches. Did I mention Kell is a fire-throwing witch? Well, he is. A fact he must keep from Seattle Vice Cop Alexandra Monzelle, who is also on the hunt for the drug manufacturer and dealers.

For the interview, I talked a guy named BEAR into being the interviewer. Bear is a shifter and the president of the Grizzly MC. Kell and he are old friends, kind of, and since Bear owes me a favor, he kindly agreed to ask Kellach some questions. Well, he growled a lot first, but here we are.

So, we’re sitting down today with Kellach Dunne, a member of the Titans of Fire Motorcycle Club.

BEAR: Thank you for sitting down with us today.

KELLACH: Sure, and it’s weird that you’re interviewing me. You don’t like people.

BEAR: I like people. Sometimes.

KELL: Bull. I’m thinking you owe Rebecca a solid, and you’re getting out of it by interviewing me.

BEAR: Maybe.

KELL: Ha. I knew it. Unfortunately, since I need your help in Seattle, I have to work with you. But now you owe me.

BEAR: Damn it.

KELLACH: Ha.

BEAR: I can’t help but notice that you have an Irish brogue. With the dark hair and eyes, I’m wondering what you’re doing with a Seattle MC.

KELLACH: My MC club at home combined with Fire, and I’m here for a bit just to get acquainted.

BEAR: That’s interesting. I mean, it seems like you have more going on than just making friends, you know?

KELLACH: I don’t know. Might you clarify?

BEAR: Of course. I have informants who’ve let me know that you’ve been seen chasing drug dealers around Seattle—the bad parts of Seattle. That you’re at the heart of the new drug on the streets, and that you’re also chasing a Seattle cop named Lex.

KELL: Your informants seem to know quite a bit about me. And it’s Alexandra. Not Lex.

BEAR: I agree that Alexandra fits her better than Lex. She is pretty and seriously hot when she shoots at a guy. I know. Are you chasing her?

KELL: Aye, I am chasing Alexandra. And a drug dealer. And there are forces at work here that we really don’t need to tell everyone about, you know?

BEAR: They already know you’re a witch.

KELL: Excuse me?

BEAR: They interviewed the king last year. I believe he’s a vampire—no?

KELL: (Clears throat). No. Vampires don’t exist. Neither do witches. Shifters do, however.

BEAR: Shut up. What about mates? I mean, is Lex your mate?

KELL: Alexandra. And time will tell.

BEAR: If not, I mean, she’s sexy. I think I’ll—

KELLACH: No. You won’t.

BEAR: Hmmm. Well, okay. I guess I should tell you that I just read Wicked Edge, which is your brother Daire’s book.

KELLACH: Book? What books?

BEAR: Don’t be daft. Anyway, can you believe who the heroine turned out to be?

KELLACH: No. No, way, no. But how awesome was that?”

BEAR: We probably shouldn’t talk any more about it. I think we’re supposed to ask a few questions for readers.

KELLACH: Ah, well, aren’t they human?

BEAR: Yes, but humans can answer questions. Usually. So, here they are:

If you could be any type of supernatural being, which would you choose?
Would you rather date a witch or a bear shifter?
If witches existed, where do you think they’d really live and why?

  1. Who are some of your favourite authors?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

I have so many! I discovered Kristen Ashley last year, and I’m a huge fan. And I like Lara Adrian, Larissa Ione, Alexandra Ivy, Jennifer Apodaca, Nora Roberts, Dean Koontz… and I could totally keep going! :)

  2. How did you decide to have your main character be a male witch? That’s rare. It’s usually female witches :).

    1. I’d be a Valkyrie so I could kick real butt :).
    2. I’d date a witch because it would be fun to play around ;).
    3. They’d live along side us because they can blend in.

    • Rebecca Zanetti

I thought it’d be sexy having a guy who could alter physics and throw fire…so I figured it’d be fun to have both male and female witches. :)

  3. 1. A witch.
    2. Same answer as before: a witch.

  4. What inspires you for the different series that you write?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

I think it’s something different for each series. For the Realm Enforcers, I wanted to do something different in the Dark Protector world, and the witches seemed like a fun and slightly wild group to play with. :)

  5. 3. Anywhere they liked, hiding in plain sight.

  6. Characters often find themselves in situations they aren’t sure they can get themselves out of. When was the last time you found yourself in a situation that was hard to get out of and what did you do?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

LOL! Well…hmmm. Big Tone asked me the other day how there was a scratch on the front right bumper of my car, and I totally thought there was no way it was me. I mean, I haven’t hit anything! Of course, he figured out how it was me (I turned around on a hill-long story). Darn it!

  7. Hi Rebecca!

Welcome back to BBB! Great to see you again.

How is your summer so far?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

Hi Rachel! Thanks so much! It has been great so far but very hot, which we’re not used to in my neck of the woods. I’m hoping we get some much needed rain soon. I also hope that your summer is going well!

  8. Hello! Did your job as a lawyer help inspire any stories or plots that you have written?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

You bet! I met some very interesting folks when I was a lawyer. Plus, being a lawyer is a lot like being a writer - it’s the same skill set. You’re trying to convince somebody of something using as few words as possible. :)

  9. A shifter, witch, I think they’d live in the forest or somewhere close to nature because their powers are more earth based.

Does Daire get his own story?

    I RSVPed for the event

    • Rebecca Zanetti

Oh, you bet!!! Daire’s story is WICKED EDGE, and it releases on November 10th. Believe me, his perfectly ordered world gets blown up…several times.

  10. Bear’s Queations:

    1) A vampire mate, of course! But only if they’re Rebecca’s vampires.
    2) A witch
    3) Witches can fit in anywhere, so smart/rich/powerful that they are. Over the centuries they would prabably gravitate to places that suit their individual personalities. I like to think we have our fair share in Vancouver: close to nature, cosmopolitan without being crowded, and plenty of non-conformists with no pressure to fit in.

  11. Oh, and I RSVP”d for today’s event.

  12. Congratulations on the publication of Wicked Ride! From all of your books who was the most difficult character to write? Who was the easiest?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

Hmmm. That’s such a good question. Janie Kayrs in MARKED was the most difficult to write, because she started as a little girl and now had to save the world…and mate tough Zane Kyllwood. But I had a lot of fun with that book! I think Brenna Dunne was the easiest to write because she was just so wounded and likable, and she fought hard even though she didn’t have powers.

  13. Raonaid Luckwell

Do you have a favorite kind or style of motorcycle?

I admit, I am a motorcycle snob. My father is a Harley-Davidson rider and lover, so I was raised around them.

  14. I remember when we first met Kell in Hunted. He and Moira led Conn on a wide motorcycle ride through Dublin complete with witchcraft-manipulated traffic lights and magically boosted propulsion. Have you ever ridden, or even driven, a motorcycle? What did you like about it? Does Big Tone get to ride?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

My first date with Big Tone was on the back of his motorcycle, which he later had to sell (4 years later) when our son was born to pay the hospital bill. LOL! Tony has a couple of motorcycles now, but we haven’t ridden in a while. When the kids are all grown, I’m sure we’ll ride some more.

  15. Bear’s Questions

Since I like the idea of being immortal without aging, I would be a vampire.

I would date a bear shifter because I like furry animals.

Because witches can easily blend in society, they could live anywhere and would probably be found in areas with a mystical connection.

    • Rebecca Zanetti

Bear’s a fun one, right? His book is the fifth in the series. I think we’re going to call it WICKED BITE.

  16. Raonaid Luckwell

If you could be any type of supernatural being, which would you choose?
—- Mmmm, I would love to be an elf (chiefly dark elf/drows). Or a were-dragon or druid. An ex-friend teased me once that I liked three D’s in my books: Drows/dark elves, dragons, and druids.

Would you rather date a witch or a bear shifter?
—- Heck, I am so game for either… I like witches, and I have to admit, my favorite character from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters is a bear shifter (DEV! Menyon friends made me a Dev bear from build a bear. I still have him)

If witches existed, where do you think they’d really live and why?
    — New Orleans, Japan, Ireland, Scotland – because these places are so entrenched in magic. I can see them flocking to such places, drawn to their allure.

  17. If you could spend the day with any literary character, who would it be and why? What would you ask them?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

Great question! I kind of feel like I already know my favorite characters from books I love to read. I would like to meet Roarke from J.D. Robb’s Death series, but I probably wouldn’t ask him anything while I kidnapped him. :)

  18. Is there a genre that you’d like to try writing, but you haven’t for whatever reason?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

I’d like to write an upbeat women’s fiction series, and I’ve started one, but I haven’t had time to finish the first book. It has a lot of humor in it, and I’m excited to do something with it someday soon.

  19. Answers to Author’s questions:

If you could be any type of supernatural being, which would you choose?

A thunderbird so I could be close to thunderstorms all the time.

Would you rather date a witch or a bear shifter?

    Bear Shifter

If witches existed, where do you think they’d really live and why?

I think they would live right along side us, and we’d never know.

  20. Hi Rebecca,

I’d be a Vampire. I think they’re sexy as hell but I’d rather date a shifter because they’re so lovable or a witch because they’re powerful.

I love your Sin Brother Series. All of them. So, what is more difficult to write, PNR or contemporary, or military in some cases?
    Thanks!

    • Rebecca Zanetti

Hi Joanna! For some reason, the contemporaries are the hardest for me to write, and I always seem to throw in a little suspense anyway. I’m not sure why. :)

      • I feel so special you got to answer my question! Rebecca Freaking Zanetti got to answer my question! LOL thank you. Can’t wait to read Bear and Kellach and the rest :)

  21. Motorcycle gang, witch, paranormal stuff all over the place, and the police. Why so many tropes in one series?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

I’m not sure those are all tropes, but the series is a paranormal series about witches, and since one was an enforcer, his opposite would be a female cop. As for the motorcycle gang, the witch enforcers ride motorcycles, and the gang in Seattle distributes drugs, including one the witches want to get. So it all flowed and made sense from there.

  22. Helen Wawrejko

Vampire, love Kellachs story. Write faster!

  23. From any of your books, what has been one of your favorite scenes, or types of scenes, to write?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

The first scene is usually my favorite. It’s when the hero and heroine meet or meet up again, and I usually don’t know anything about them or the plot when I first write that scene.

  24. I’m reading your book now. I can’t wait until Bear gets his mate. Is it okay for me to volunteer to be the mate? How many more books will be in the series?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

There are five books in the series, and Bear’s book is the fifth one. I do think he’d make a great mate for a human, so… :)

  25. To answer your giveaway questions:

I would choose to be a shifter, maybe a jaguar shifter.

I would rather date a bear shifter.

I think they’d live anywhere, kind of like hiding in plain sight and right under everyone’s noses.

    • Rebecca Zanetti

I think it’d be fun to date a bear shifter, too. Plus, I like honeyed beer…which they like to drink, right? :)

  26. Do your pets get along? Do any of them favor one particular member of the family?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

My pets get along pretty well. The dogs are pals, and they totally favor my husband. The cat favors me for some reason. He likes to sit on the keyboard.

  27. Dear Bear,

In answer to your questions, #1 I would be a Bear Shifter of course so we could date. #2 I would prefer to date a bear shifter named Bear. #3 Witches would live close to nature.

    • Rebecca Zanetti

I think witches would live closer to nature - you’re right. That totally makes sense to me.

  28. Hi Rebecca and Congratulations! It’s hard to believe that you gave up working as a lawyer in order to write!LOL What is your writing day like?

    Answers to your questions:

    1. I’ll go with witch.
    2. Witch
    3. I think they’d live anywhere they wanted!!

    • Rebecca Zanetti

Well, it depends on the day, really. I usually get the kids off to school, answer emails and check social media, work out, and then start writing. But it seems like stuff always comes up, you know? :) Deadlines usually slam me over the head.

      • I know what you mean~you come up with a great, workable plan and bam, it’s shot and you’re scurrying around trying to salvage some small part of your plan! Reminds me of the saying: Man plans and God laughs! Happy writing to you! I enjoyed the chat!

  29. Who is your favorite Muppet and why?

  30. Stacey A Smith

What is your favorite part of being a Author?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

I get paid for making stuff up, which is pretty cool. It’s also tons of fun to meet fans who like the characters - it means a lot.

  31. If you could be any type of supernatural being, which would you choose?
    An elf , a fairy or a were-dragon.

Would you rather date a witch or a bear shifter?
I think I prefer a witch ( I like my bears only in nature movies ;)

If witches existed, where do you think they’d really live and why?
It can be be anywhere under the Radar.

  32. Hi, I spent 2 days with my partners granddaughter this week (15yo) and we saw Jurassic World, Terminator Gynesis and Spy. Thought Spy was super funny and was plesantly suprised by the terminator movie. Have you been to the movies recently? Can you recommend a movie?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

You know, I can’t even remember the last movie I went to in the theatre. I want to see all the movies you just mentioned, but I’ll probably wait until they’re on DirectTV. I did watch Gone Girl the other day on HBO, and oh my goodness! That made my mind spin.

  33. I’d be some sort of unusual shifter (maybe a bird).

I thought the male witches in Brandon Fox’s Pledged To Magic series were pretty sexy, so I’d probably go with that (as long as he was the kind who wouldn’t use anything sneaky on me). Then again, a bear shifter might be cuddly and loyal…

I’d imagine they’d pick a very green place with lots of history, like Stonehenge or Yosemite.

  34. @Rebecca Zanetti How many books are planned for your new series?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

The Realm Enforcer series will have five books in it. The second one is Daire’s book, the third is Simone’s, the fourth is Adam’s, and the fifth is Bear’s.

  35. What is something you have always wanted to write but never could?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

I’d like to write a YA series, but I’d really have to work on my voice, because it’s just not a YA voice. It’d also be fun to write a legal thriller, which I could do, but I haven’t had time yet.

  36. How do you decide if a book is going to be a stand alone or part of a series?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

My books always have a strong thread of family through them, so they easily become series.’ I’ve never written a stand alone, to be honest. I might someday, but right now, I like doing a series.

  37. 1.Weredragon.
    2.Witch
    3.Freedom, Oklahoma
What is your favorite type of music?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

My tastes are all over the board for music - I like it all. In fact, each book has its own playlist, but songs often cross over.

  38. I can’t think of a question that has not yet been asked, but I want you to know that I love the Realm series and I loved the first in the Realm Enforcer series. Waiting not so patiently for more! Thank you!

  39. About where would witches live. I think they would live among normal humans in their own small covens or groups. Kind of hidden in plain sight.

  40. The interview was fun. Thanks!

Have you been discouraged or wondered if you should give up and try something else? How did you keep going?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

I thought about taking up yoga a few years back instead of writing before I first sold, but to be honest, I don’t think I’d ever stop writing. Once you open those floodgates, I don’t think they close. So no matter what happens, I’ll keep writing stories. :)

  41. Were you interest in writing as a kid?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

Yes, I was. I wrote short stories quite a bit, and I took creative writing in high school as well as college. :)

      • Who do you think influenced you and encouraged the most as a kid - teachers, parents, or friends.

        • Probably my parents . They’re both avid readers, and they always encouraged us to write and try new things. I also had some wonderful teachers through the years who were very encouraging as well.

  42. Are there any other genres you would be interested in writing ?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

Yeah - I’d like to write an upbeat women’s fiction series as well as a legal thriller. You know, it’d be fun to write a middle-grade series as well. :)

  43. hi Rebecca,

was there a certain book hat made you want to write?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

Early romances that I read from Nora Roberts (the McGregor series). I always liked romances from that point on. :)

  44. Any current favorite tv shows or books?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

Fun question! I love Supernatural, Bones, the Big Bang Theory and Beauty and the Beast. :)

  45. Questions answered:
    1. If you could be any type of supernatural being, which would you choose?
I would either be a psychic or a sorceress

    2. Would you rather date a witch or a bear shifter?
A bear shifter seems more protective and strong so i ‘ll go with that :)

    3. If witches existed, where do you think they’d really live and why?
In Salem, Mass :) kinda like hiding in plain sight.

  46. How many books are planned for this series? I am so happy there are more Realm book :)

    • Rebecca Zanetti

I think there will be 5 books. The first is Kellach’s, then Daire’s, then Simone’s, Adam’s, and finally Bear’s book. :)

  47. What are your must haves for writing?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

Socks and a computer. Weird, I know, but I love thick comfy socks when I’m writing. And a glass of water or two. :)

  48. Where do you get your inspiration from for this series spin off? Love that there are going to be 5 books in series!

    • Rebecca Zanetti

I had so much fun with Kellach Dunne in HUNTED, way back when, so I thought it’d be a good time to write his story, and it suddenly turned into five books. I keep adding books every time I see my editor - LOL!

  49. First I wanted to say I love your books. I enjoy reading them and have multiple times and recommend them to others. I am also a part of your online group.

I have a few questions: Will we get an update on the characters from the Dark Protectors? Will we see Brenna and Moira with their mates and children in a future book? Oh and the coven Nine, will more witches be added to their ranks and will they be more in future books?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

Thank you so much for the kind words, and also for being one of the Rebels! Yes, there will be updates on the Dark Protectors, and I’m working on a story with a few of the original ones right now that I hope to have ready for a Christmas release. Brenna will be key to that story if it all comes together in time. For the Coven Nine, the current series will be: Kell’s book, then Daire, Simone, Adam, and finally Bear. At that time, if we want to keep going, we’ll probably either do a spinoff with the shifters or the younger generation. It just depends on fan interest and if folks want more books. :)

  50. What was your favorite part about writing the book and is there a character you had the most fun with?

    • Rebecca Zanetti

My favorite part is the very beginning - the first scene. It’s always the most fun to write for me, probably because I don’t know anything about the characters or plot yet, and it’s just how they meet or meet up again. I’ve had so much fun with so many characters, but I just finished WICKED EDGE (book 2), and the heroine in that one was a blast. She’ll be a surprise to readers. :)

  51. wheres your favorite place to write?

    • I think I’d have to say at the lake, unless it’s too hot. It’s normally just right here in the PAC NW to write at the lake, but this summer, we’re having record heat. So in that case…at home in my office (which also has a very nice view of a lake) with the AC on. :)

  52. Have your job experiences ever found a way into your books? What was the worst job you ever had?

  53. 1) I’d want to be a fallen angel.

    2) A witch

    3) Somewhere close to nature and secluded - near or in forests or small communities.

  54. What is your favorite movie that was based off of a book?

  55. Hi, Rebecca!
Congratulations on your new release! It sounds SO good, and I loved the interview. :-) I’ve read your Brazen contemporaries, and have so enjoyed them. Which do you enjoy writing more? Paranormal or contemporary romances? Do you find it hard to switch over from one genre/world to another? Going to pick up Wicked Ride now!

  56. who is your favorite author?

  57. Linda Szymoniak

Who is the one person who influenced (or supported) you most as a writer?

  58. What books do you like to write?

  59. if you could have three folks to dinner living, dead, real, or imaginary who would they be or why

  60. Hi Rebecca! Trying to think of something you haven’t been asked yet is challenging. :) Would you like to write a book with another author? If so, who would your dream co-author be?

  61. 1. a witch
    2. a bear shifter
    3. wherever they want lol

  62. To answer your questions:
    1. I’ve always wanted magical powers, so I’ll say a witch. I would especially love to be able to teleport myself. All the amazing places you could visit, no traffic and I might actually be on time for once!
    2. A bear shifter. A witch might put a hex on me if we broke up. :D
    3. Living amongst us. They’d probably just hide it, practice behind closed doors. I picture them living in a manor house, I probably watched too much Charmed years ago!

  63. If you could be any type of supernatural being, which would you choose? I think a witch would be cool
Would you rather date a witch or a bear shifter? either :)
If witches existed, where do you think they’d really live and why? almost all over, though no place too hot or too cold (neither would appeal to me after all) ;)

question for you — thanks for the heads up that Daire’s book is next but mean to tease about the heroine and not give more info, so more info? please? if not, which brother is your fave?

  64. Is this a series?

  65. vampire
    witch
    no idea

  66. What is your favorite food?

  67. Do unicorns count as supernatural beings? ;0D

  68. I would rather date a witch.

  69. I think witches would live wherever they wanted to because they’re cool like that. =)
