A Weekend of Misbehaving by Carmen Falcone

BBB: Describe yourself with five adjectives.

CF: Funny, loyal, chatty, loud, paranoid

BBB: What real-life science, pseudo-science, history, religion, or mythologies did you research for your book?

CF: Wow. That’s a deep question, lol. I researched Capri (I visited it a couple times, but when you’re writing you really have to nail the deets.) My best friend inspired me to write Alice, so in a way, I’ve been researching her character for a while :)

BBB: Would your main character win on the show Survivor by strength, cheating or not at all?

CF: Oh my gosh. I think She would win by using her wit and outsmarting everyone. Alice would find a way. She always does!

BBB: Have you ever gone out in public with your shirt on backwards, or your slippers on, and when realizing it, just said screw it?

CF: Slippers on, yes. I usually say my fashion style is called “I wasn’t expecting to get out of the car.”

BBB: Please tell us more about A Weekend of Misbehaving and the storyline that drives it.

CF: A Weekend of Misbehaving is a delicious romance about a sassy, fabulous nanny who has a lot on her plate. She’s caught skinny-dipping at her boss’ pool by his business partner, can you believe it? Lorenzo Baldi needs to buy the art paintings otherwise his whole life will be exposed and his career ruined. They embark on a surprising journey together-to Capri, where they’ll pretend to be engaged, but the real fun begins when they address their real emotions-including an inconvenient, sizzling attraction to each other.

BBB: How many more books will there be in the Time to Misbehave series?

CF: A Night of Misbehaving (novella) is already out and A Month of Misbehaving will come out later in the year.

BBB: What sets Time to Misbehave series apart from other books in the same genre?

CF: A lot of times, when you get a story that has a heartwarming message or sweet ending, you get the emotional side but not a lot of smexy times. My stories are packed with the best of both worlds: they are burning hot but also unexpectedly sweet, uplifting and humorous.

BBB: What types of characters can readers expect in your world?

CF: My heroes are always gorgeous, powerful Alpha men who also have a mysterious past/and or a huge issue they need to overcome. In comes the heroine… I love to make my heroines everyday women who experience extraordinary journeys with the heroes. They are usually quirky, with a fab sense of humor, smart. They rock, like we girls do :)

BBB: What does your protagonist think about you? Would he or she want to hang out with you, the author, his creator.

CF: Alice would totally want to hang out with me. She’s super talented (amateur designer) and she got to sleep with one of the hottest (and richest) guys around. I’m telling you, I’m expecting a thank-you note with a check from her at any moment. *grin*

BBB: What are the 5 books your hero or heroine loves best!

CF: I think Alice would love fashion books. And also some self-help titles, to help her deal with her cray cray family life. Lol.

BBB: What’s the weirdest thing you’ve Googled?

CF: Where to hide a dead body.

BBB: What’s coming up for you for 2016?

CF: 2016 will be an amazing year, and that’s not just because my fortune cookie said so. Brazilian Revenge, a sexy twisty romantic suspense, is out in March. I also have a fabulous (and secret!) project out in June. Then, there’s A Month of Misbehaving and a couple other books in the works.

  1. Who are some of your favourite authors?

  2. Hello! What new releases are you excited about?

  3. Congratulations on your new release! Who is your favorite character from the books you have written? Was this character easy or difficult to write?

    • Alice from A Weekend of Misbehaving is one my current faves :) She was easy because she’s just so much fun. Lol.

Bruno from Kidnapping the Brazilian Tycoon and Devon from Accidentally Seduced are some of my fave heroes :) *swoon*

  4. Author questions

My dream boss would be someone who considers me an important member of the company, appreciates my abilities, and doesn’t micromanage my assignments.

In general, I am against romantic relationships at work. Office romance is much too complicated and can easily come back to haunt you.

My luxury vacation would be a first-class trip around the world in a private jet.

    • Great answers, Bonnie! Thanks so much for stopping by :)

I agree with you- office romance is complicated which is why it’s so good to write about (and read). In real life though, no. Lol. Been there though :D

  5. If you could only give ONE piece of advice to newbie authors and writers, what advice do you think is the most important one to give? One PRO to becoming an author? One CON to becoming an author?

    • Hi Raonaid!

I would say don’t quit. No matter what if that’s what you want to do.

Whether you do it as a hobby or you wanna become published on day; the more you write the better you get. Another advice would be share it- find a critique partner or a writer’s group, or join some online groups or even take some classes. They help a lot. Find someone who understands the craft and who can give you advice. And good luck! :)

  6. Carmen I love you and follow you everywhere as you know…..but where the heck do you find the time???

    • LOL!

I feel like I’m always falling short. I have two kids, one hubby, 3 dogs and as you may know… I’m from Brazil and my husband is from Switerzland. So we have NO family in town (or in the country). I also work as a translator.

It’s not easy, but I try to use every spare time, every chance I get, to write. :D Or to be on Facebook. Lol.

  7. Dream boss….. Dale Jr the racer

  8. office romance… you can’t control where and when you fall in love…. so as long as neither are married yes go for it

  9. Dream Vacation is Galapagos Islands and Great Barrier Reef

  10. Who would be your dream boss?
    — Uhhh, that is a gooood question. I have no idea.
Are you pro or against office romance?
    — I am of the mind that if the romance-relationship does not interfere in the individuals’ work, disrupt the workplace or inappropriate behaviors, than it is okay.

If money were no object where would you go for a luxury vacation?
    — Anywhere that does NOT see snow or get cold… I live in WV, so yeah, I hate winter and get snarly until it warms up.

    • So you must experience the four seasons then :) I live in Texas and we have summer and “cooler days” Lol

      • I have a friend that lives in Houston.. And she makes me laugh whenever they get snow… But yeah, it’s currently in the teens and I hate it. It makes me all depressed and thnking negative thoughts

  11. Congratulations on your new release! Great interview, Carmen!! I would like to know which of your characters was your all time favorite to write so far?

  12. If you decided to step out of your comfort zone what is the first thing you would wish to do?

    • Linda I am kicking myself because I didn’t buy any tickets. Can you believe it? Have you bought any?

    • I’m sorry Mary, I have no idea what happened. I meant to answer you then I just saw the answer to someone else’s question. Please be patient. Lol.I don’t have it together technology wise :D

Out of my comfort zone? I would wake up everyday at 5:00am and run.

  13. You described yourself as ‘chatty.’ Just curious, what exactly does that mean to you? Do you think you tend to monopolize conversations, are always chatting up total strangers, both, neither?

  14. What movies or music inspire you when you write if any?

  15. Author Question:

My dream boss would be a woman who understands what I go through and how to help me whenever I suffer from a random or sudden anxiety attack and one who I could speak to about anything and she would listen.

  16. Author Question

I am against office romances because if it doesn’t work out, you could lose your job in addition to the broken heart

  17. Author Question

My luxury vacation would be a trip through Scotland, Ireland, Italy and France because I want to learn more about where my ancestors came from

  18. My dream boss would be my crush so I’d have an excuse to see him everyday and put in some very fun overtime.

Obviously I’m okay with office relationships… I met my crush and first true love at work. I also met my Ex husband that way too. I’m more of a fan of the crush than the ex hubby. :)

My dream vacation would be a trip to Ireland to explore some of the Olde Castles and just take in the glorious sights.

    • Hahaha. Awesome!!

Hey if you’re not hurting anyone, why not mix business and pleasure? I must say my fave romance books have the boss/employee trope. I don’t know what it is about it. Maybe the forbidden… or that gorgeous rich Alpha hero hahaha.

  19. My question for you is have you ever found yourself in similar situations as your characters? I can honestly say I got caught skinny dipping in my neighbors pool with a guy I was dating at the time…I was in high school and it was embarrassing since she was a second Mom and paraded me out the long way back home to teach me a lesson.

  20. Hi Carmen!

What were some of your favorite spots in Capri?

My dream boss would be me! I like being in the driver seat.

The fun side of me says office romances are fun and cheeky but the realist in me (and the one that has seen that play out before her eyes) know that they are generally messy and distracting for more than just the primary players. They are best between the pages of a good book.

My dream vacation is a grand tour of the Mediterranean

    • Hi Kristin!

I loved the Blue Grotto, the restaurants… it’s all so beautiful really :)

Your dream vacation sounds great! I love the Mediterranean, particularly in the spring.

  21. If you weren’t writing, what would you do?

  22. Is there a genre that you’d like to try writing in, but haven’t yet for whatever reason?

  23. who is your favorite author?

  24. What is the most amazing thing you have done for research?
I think Roarke from In Death would be a great boss.
Against office romance. IT can cause too many problems.
I would go to New Zealand.

    • Hi DebraG!

OMG I love Roarke!! :) He’s so dreamy.

And what’s the most amazing thing? Hhmmm.. I’m not sure. I did interview an executive producer from L.A. which was pretty cool. She works with reality shows, and since my next book in the Time to Misbehave Series features a hero who wants to join a dating show, her input was so valuable.

  25. Hi Carmen! When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

  26. 1. My dream boss is definitely me.
    2. Pro, as long as people are reasonably mature about it.
    3. Ireland, hands down.

  27. Hi Carmen! Congratulations on your new release-it sounds like a great read! I love your picture-very nice! I wondered how long you have been writing and how many hours you get in a day because it must be way more than the standard 24!!!

    • Hey there Betty :D

      Aaaaww. Thank you.

I’ve been writing since I was a little girl, really. I used to LOVE to write and buy pretty paper and new pens. I told my daughter I wrote my first book when I was a teenager using a typewriter and she had no idea what I was talking about. Lol. Professionally though, I signed my first contract in 2012 and since then I’ve published nine books.

  28. My answers to Carmen’s questions:

    1. I’m my own boss now since retirement and for the most part, I like my boss, but she can get a little demanding when her stomach is empty and growling but I can usually calm her with some chocolate!

    2. I think each romance is different and a great deal depends upon whether the people are mature and really in love and willing to work through any issues that might arise.

    3. That’s a tough choice because there are so many lovely places in the world but I would like to start with New Zealand-it looks beyond beautiful!

  29. hi Carmen, you are new to me so what book should I start with?

    • Hi Dina! :)

A Weekend of Misbehaving is my latest one and a lot of readers love it! I also have a title on sale for $.99c called Kidnapping the Brazilian Tycoon. I don’t know for how much longer the sale will last, but that’s a good one too if I may say so myself. Lol!

  30. Hi I was wondering if you had any pets and if so what? What are your favorite animals?

    • Yes!!!

I have three pugs: Gypsy (male), Bella and Lola. I love dogs! I’ve had cats too in the past, but my dogs aren’t super cat friendly so for a while I will just keep them :) And my dog has a salt water tank with gorgeous Nemo and also a shrimp called Bradley.

  31. Powerball fever is in full swing with the post being $1.5+ billion USD. Did you buy any tickets? (Or, if you don’t have it by you, would you if it was?)

    • Linda I am kicking myself because I didn’t buy any tickets. Can you believe it? Have you bought any?

      • My daughter and I got one ticket each. I can’t afford to waste more than that, but it is fun to dream about what I’d do if we won. The drawing is tomorrow night. Keep fingers crossed for me!

  32. 1. dream boss would be someone who doesn’t micromanage, respects you and your opinions, who really listens, acknowledges and gives you credit for your contributions and accomplishments, has your back and will always stand up for you, does all she/he can to make it easier for you to do your job correctly
    2. If an office romance is handle under the radar and doesn’t affect other people or the work in the office I think it would be okay
    3. I would love to go to Scotland and Ireland

  33. Do you have any favorite current shows or books?

  34. Who would be your dream boss?
Umm I guess me lol or someone who is really likable and just awesome.

Are you pro or against office romance?
I’m all for it as long as it doesn’t mess with the work dynamic

If money were no object where would you go for a luxury vacation?
Either Disney World vacation at one of the deluxe resorts or a European vacation most in the UK

  35. What are you reading right now or what’s on your TBR?

    • Right now I’m reading Wild Ride by Cathryn Fox.

I have LOTS of books on my TBR list. It’s hard because I also have books from critique partners to read/offer feedback so that TBR just keeps growing.

  36. Who would be your dream boss?
I’ve gotta agree with an earlier commentor-if a book character- Roark from NR In Death series
    Real person- Tom Selleck

Are you pro or against office romance?
I’m all for it as long as it’s your soul mate but otherwise it usually creates a crappy situation

If money were no object where would you go for a luxury vacation?
    somewhere warm and sandy

  37. so….where DO you hide a dead body??

  38. Who is your favorite Muppet and why?

  39. My dream boss would listen to my ideas and know how to nurture my potential!

Even though office romances are bad when they blow up, it’s also bad to repress them if the feelings are genuine. So, it depends on the couple and the workplace!

I’d go to a variety of places…I’d start with some spots in the US like Washington DC, go to eastern Canada, then head to the UK and elsewhere in Europe!

    • Yes a boss who listens is great. Two of my besties were my bosses when I worked in the hospitality field. I admired them a lot, and even after we all took different paths our friendship only grew :)

  40. Hi Carmen,

Welcome to Bitten by BOOKS, it is great to have you here with us today.

My question for you is; do you have a FAVORITE BOOK or SERIES that you have written so far????

If so, which is it and why????

    • Thanks for having me. You guys are a fun bunch :D

It’s hard to pick one favorite book or series. Whenever I’m working on a project, that book has my undivided attention and my priority. I love the Time to Misbehave series because the books offer a great mix of sensuality, sense of humor and delicious plot :D My Naked Truth series is a bit mores suspenseful, so that has been amazing to write as well.

  41. Mizz Carmen,
My favorite boss would be a romance reader, who let me read & review for them. WOW, I just described you!
If it’s a messy, SEXUAL charged office romance, they YES, but only in a romance book. In real live, an office romance is not fun for the whole office & leaves a stain you can’t get out on the daily atmosphere.
If money is as no object, then any MEGA ROMANCE CONVENTION would be my DREAM VACA!!
Biggest PET PEEVE for writing? Who normals breaks it? And what is their CARMEN punishment?

    • Hahahaha. Love you Patty!!

Pet peeve? Hhhmmm… I have an office and I go to Starbucks sometimes. But, sometimes I just like to sit on the sofa and write. I love the view from our living room. Well, my husband has a very different schedule and when he’s off during the day, it can be challenging if I’m trying to write in the living room.

So he’s the one who breaks it but I can’t tell you the punishment. :D hehehehe

  42. Are there any other genres you would have an interest in writing?

    • I write contemporary romance and romantic suspense. Maybe one day I’d like to write a sexy historical. The problem is I’d have to do tons of research. And find the time. Lol.

  43. What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

  44. Q) Who would be your dream boss? A) No clue at all.
    Q) Are you pro or against office romance? A) I am against them for the reason if it does not work out, what do you do?
    Q) If money were no object where would you go for a luxury vacation? No, luxury vacation.

  45. 1. My dream boss would let me do my own thing as long as I had success.
    2. Since I met my hubby at work, office romance is okay with me.
    3. If I had the money I’d go to New Zealand in a heartbeat :)!

Have you had a boss that you just didn’t respect at all and had to leave because you couldn’t work for him? I did, it was awful.

  46. So you met your hubby at work? How awesome!! Haha

  47. What a great interview, Carmen! I, too, cater to the “I didn’t intend to get out of the car” couture. LOL!! Love that! Congrats on your new release. I have my copy!

  48. if you could go anywhere in the world on a vacation where would you go?

  49. From any of your books, what has been one of your favorite scenes to write?

    • In Kidnapping the Brazilian Tycoon, there’s a scene I just love. Bruno (hero) has this spontaneous idea to take Addie (heroine) to the beach. They don’t have swimsuits so he stops at a shop and they buy some. The catch is-they’re in Brazil. So he chooses a tiny bikini for Addie, and she agrees as long as SHE picks what he’ll wear. It was just so much fun to see them at the beach, wearing what they chose for each other, trying to dodge the lurking sexual tension…

  50. What book/books are you reading now?

  51. How many books do you write in one year ?

  52. Have your job experiences ever found a way into your books? What was the worst job you ever had? The best?

    • Great questions!

I worked in the hotel industry for several years, so I certainly used that experience. In one of my books, the hero was a hotelier and she was a PR.
The worst job? I was a pet sitter for a while. It wasn’t the worst job because of the time I spent with the animals-that was the BEST prt. I love animals. But it was hard to see how some people took care of their pets, and that made it painful to me.

  53. 1) Myself:) but then I’d get no work done:)

    2) I’d say office romance is risky, but sometimes it’s nearly the only way to find someone when you spend most of your time at work.

    3) Umm, somewhere warm, tropical, with beaches to relax at, Haiti or Hawaii sound about right.
