Hey everyone! Before we get this release party started, I’d like to thank Rachel and Bitten by Books for inviting me to return! I always have such a great time at these events and can’t wait to see what the day brings. Today, I’m here to talk about my newest release, What a Werewolf Wants. Even though it’s the third book in the San Francisco Wolf Pack Series, it can absolutely be read as a stand-alone since it revolves around a new hero and heroine in the wolf pack. This sexy and snarky paranormal romance happens to be one of my favorites since there’s such a great push and pull between Josie, the feisty matchmaking heroine, and Ryder, a jaded private investigator. His best friend (a werewolf) is marrying her sister (a human who doesn’t know the secret he’s hiding). While Ryder is trying to stop the wedding, Josie will do whatever it takes to give the couple a dream day. But the secret she’s trying to expose might just ruin everything…
The idea of matchmaking—thrusting two “possibly perfect for each other” strangers into a relationship—has always intrigued me. I’ve been dating my Alpha male husband for seventeen years, but before we got together I had a very clear idea what I was looking for. First and foremost, there has to be laughter in my life, so my hero had to have an amazing sense of humor. I was also looking for someone with ambition—a guy who would say, “I will” rather than “I want.” Being financially stable didn’t matter to me, but he had to want to settle down in the near future. (No playboys for me!) He had to be tough and ruggedly Alpha, but live with morals,
integrity, and have a kind heart. (Not too much to ask, right?)
I’d like to share an excerpt from What a Werewolf Wants, showing what Josie Cole is looking for in a man:
“Sighing as a blanket of gooseflesh covered her body, Josie averted her attention to the fruit in front of her. At least that way she wouldn’t have to look into his mesmerizing blue eyes. She poked a raspberry, dipped it into the chocolate, and shoved it into her mouth.
Stable home life is important to me, since I only have my sister.” She chewed slowly, enjoying the delicious combination. “Having a good job is essential, too. A man should be able to support himself without working crazy hours.”
Nodding, Ryder stared down at his empty plate.
“He also needs to be a hopeless romantic like me,” she went on, licking chocolate from her lips. “That’s a must.”
“I don’t think anyone is like you…” As his gaze homed in on her mouth, he paused, reaching out for her. “You’re a mess.”
“Excuse me?” She pulled back slowly, staring at his hand as it hovered near her mouth. “What are you doing?”
“There’s chocolate…right there.” He swiped the corner of her mouth with the soft pad of his finger and then pulled back. “Sorry. Easier to get it myself than direct you to the smudge.”
She quivered as the scent of his skin and the warmth of his touch lingered on her lips. “I am a mess.”
A big, trembling, sexually aroused mess.
Swiping her mouth with her napkin—something she could’ve done in the first place—Josie watched Ryder suck on the finger that’d just touched her lips. He only put the tip of his finger inside, but the movement of his mouth and the eroticism of the gesture nearly broke her.
“You’re mouthwatering,” He shook his head and frowned as if shaking off some kind of fog. “I meant the chocolate, of course.”

Besides werewolves, do you have other favourites among the paranormal beings?
I love dragons and vampires and have written both as well! Can’t choose my favorites between them, so I’ll say I just love all three equally.
Hi Kristin and Congrautlations! Which authors have influenced you the most?
Hi Betty! There have been so many authors who have influenced me along my writing and publishing journey. Tina Folsom, Bella Andre, and Barbara Freethy are members of my local Romance Writers of America Chapter and have helped influence/inspire me along the way. As far as reading goes, J.R. Ward and Anne Rice piqued my interest in writing sexy paranormal romance. Kristan Higgins is one of my favorites in contemporary and inspires me to write quirky heroines. I love the dark tones of Dean Koontz and John Saul, and was reading books by those publishing giants early on.
Great choices! Dean Koontz is an amazing author! Several years ago, I finished one of his books and I was completely captivated by it. One of those that you keeps you up late and you’ve read for so long that you can’t even hardly focus on the words anymore. Well, after I finished it, I was telling my husband about it and I realized that it just sounded silly when I summarized it-you just have to read it for yourself! Have you ever felt like that when you’re just so completely caught up in something but you can’t get it across? Well, I guess not since you’re a writer and you can express yourself! Well, anyway, words fail me at times…
I know EXACTLY what you mean! I get caught up in books all the time, try to explain them to people, but all that comes out is “It’s amazing! You have to read it for yourself.” I often have time describing my own books as well. Sometimes it’s easier to write the book than write the synopsis afterward. Don’t really know why that is, but it’s the case with most of my books.
A kindred spirit! I have the same problem with reviews sometimes. I want to write a review that will convey how great the book is and encourage others to read it but I don’t want to give away anything critical. So, I read and then ponder… Write a draft, read it and then ponder some more… Then out of frustration, I read it one more time and post it…
Oh yes! Same thing happens for me when I write! LOL! Write a draft, read it, and then plot some more, edit, write, read, and then out of frustration delete, delete, delete. Takes me a while for the words to match what I see in my head. But eventually, after months and months of hammering away and not giving up, the book is finished and I’m beyond thrilled.
It is a similar process although on a MUCH, MUCH smaller scale with reviews. I always want to do justice to the book so others will discover a great new author!
And we love you for it! <3
Thank you, Kristin! I enjoy reading so much that I want everyone to love it!
Good nature comes before smokin’ hot to me because it’s more likely to last.
Werewolves are still number 1!
My favorite place to read in the winter is my recliner with a cup of hot tea or hot chocolate beside me. And, we won’t talk about snacks that are readily available:( I know, I know, I’m trying to change my ways:)
Yes to everything you said.
If you can find a man who has a good nature and is smoking hot, that’s a double bonus!
I like to read curled up on my couch with a blanket and a hot cup of vanilla-flavored coffee. I know people who read in the bath or the shower (with their kindle safely sealed in a Ziploc), but I just can’t do it.
Sometimes I read while I’m in a bubble bath but I have never tried reading in the shower and I’ve never risked having my Kindle around my bath. I usually go for a paperback. Sometimes, I read my Kindle as I use my treadmill and that works for me. I’m interested in my reading and I forget that I’m also exercising. Well, maybe not forget but it does change my focus from how much longer do I have to walk to how much longer can I read!
That’s funny. I like reading on my kindle at home and paperback on the treadmill.
I’ve read Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier on the treadmill four different times and now every time I workout that way, all I want to do is go back to Manderley. LOL! My mind has associated walking in place with walking through that gorgeous estate in my head.
That’s a great association and it’s definitely better than associating it with dread, sweat and maybe tears:) Hmm, I’ve never tried a paperback while using the treadmill. I like to read my Kindle because I set the font to large so it’s easy to see and when I’m hanging on to the handgrips, it’s pretty easy to flail around and turn the page!LOL
I’m cracking up over here at that mental image. I’ve found that if I read for awhile on the treadmill and then switch it up to the bike, I get a ton of reading done. Making the font whatever size you want is definitely a benefit of e-readers. And the fact that you can one-click and buy the next book in a series in the middle of the night without having to wait for a bookstore to open.
I don’t have a bike but I do reward myself by adjourning to that nice, comfortable recliner I mentioned earlier! And, yes, you do have to love the one-click, maybe sometimes rue the one-click that became a lot of one-clicks!!!
hola Kristin!
Welcome back to BBB, it’s always great to have you on.
So, what are your big plans for the new year?
We are moving into a wait for it….
Trailer. LOL time to write about some camping shifters I think!
Hi Rachel,
Thanks so much for having me back here today.
My plans for the new year are to slow down and breathe, first and foremost. The last two years have been crazy busy and I feel like the world is spinning a bit. My family and I are going to take a few vacations (Disneyland, San Diego, Lake Tahoe, northern California) and I’ll be going to Las Vegas and San Diego for writing conferences. I plan to publish more books in my Kiss County Bachelors series (sweet contemporaries) and a few super sekrit paranormal projects that can’t be discussed just yet.
Trailer living can be really nice if you’ve got a great view or are in a nice area! And yes, if your trailer is near a heavily-wooded area, watch out for those werewolves.
Hi, Kristin!
Congratulations on your new release! This series is so fun, and what’s better than fun, laughter and romance? Sigh. I’m wishing you many, many sales!
So my question is if you had the opportunity to co-author a book with any writer, who would it be and what genre would you write?
Congrats again!!
Hi Naima! Thanks so much for stopping by today! I’m a huge fan of your Bachelor Auction series too.
I’m wishing many sales right back at you.
I’ve honestly never thought about co-authoring. My process isn’t really that organized so I fear I would drive another author crazy. If I *could* find someone brave enough to co-author with me, I’d either stick with paranormal (because I love it so much), contemporary (because that’s my second love), or dark romantic suspense (because that was my first calling to writing).
What about you? Co-authoring in your future? A dream co-author?
You have me fan-girling and blushing over here, Kristin! LOL! Thank you so much! That means a lot!
I’m like you. I think I would drive another author nuts with my writing process. Which is like Finding Nemo’s Dorie and sparkly stuff. *snicker* But in a perfect world with rainbow-tinted skies, I would co-author with Elle Kennedy or Kristin Callihan. I would love to rock a New Adult with either of them because 1) they’re the goddesses of NA, and 2) if I ever dragged my big girl panties on, I would love to write an NA one day. So who better than one of those two? But yeah, since either one of them would probably kill me, that’s a dream. Hee-hee!
It’s great to dream!!! You have a great voice for NA-you’re right, you would rock it.
1. I love a nice body but loyalty is tops for me.
2. Dragon shifters are close but werewolves are still #1.
3. Doesn’t matter what time of year, I like to cuddle up on the recliner sofa and read with a nice mocha.
Where do you like to read in the warmer months?
Loyalty is a MUST.
Love those dragons.
I like to read curled up on my couch with a blanket and a hot cup of coffee.
Oh right! I forgot to answer the question. LOL!! My hypothetical must-haves on a dating application are a sense of humor and to be able to hold a conversation. Next would be off-the-charts physical attraction. Hee-hee! But yeah, being able to make me laugh is super sexy!
I’m absolutely with you on the sense of humor and conversation-holding. No dumb jocks over here. Sexual chemistry is a HUGE part of a successful relationship (in my IMO) so if you can find a man with the humor, brains, and hot bod, he’s a keeper!
Absolutely! I would say that man is as elusive as rainbow-pooping unicorns, but I married him!
I did too! LOL
1. smart, honest, supportive, and caring
2. oh yes, werewolves are no.1
3. love to read in a lounge chaise we have in the family room
Hi Jo Anne,
Each of those qualities are so important.
Glad to know I’m not the only werewolf fan.
Congratulations on your new release! I loved the excerpt. How many books do you have planned for the San Francisco Wolf Pack series?
Thanks, Bonnie! So glad you liked the snippet.
WHAT A WEREWOLF WANTS is the third book in the San Francisco Wolf Pack Series, but you don’t need to have read the others to enjoy this one. It’s completely stand-alone. Each of the three books in the series follows another Alpha male from the San Francisco Wolf Pack as he finds his forever love. That’s really the only tie between the books-they’re part of the same world, and the same pack. As of right now, the series will temporarily end at three while I work on other projects. I don’t want to say the series is over because I may come back to it at another point, but for right now, three is complete.
Are you superstitious and did you make New Year’s resolutions?
Great question!
I am superstitious in a sense. While I don’t believe in the breaking glass, walking under a ladder, or black cat crossing your path superstitions, I do believe in beginner’s luck and think that finding a penny brings good luck too. Weird that I choose between them and don’t really have a good reason for it. Now that I think about it, they’re “superstitions” because none of them have good reason.
I made a New Year’s resolution to “breathe”. Slow down and relax, take time to breathe, and enjoy the moment.
What about you for both questions?
Would there be any other genres that you would have an interest in writing?
I write paranormal and contemporary romance at the moment. I have written romantic suspense and erotic paranormal. I would write straight erotica and romantic comedy, maybe chick lit, but I think that would be it.
Which genre do you like reading best?
Author questions
A man with a goodhearted nature and a great sense of humor would be at the top of my list. Humor is necessary in order to survive the ups and downs of a relationship.
The wolf is still my favorite shifter, followed by the dragon.
In winter my favorite place to read is in the family room on the sofa by the fireplace.
Love the top of your list.
I absolutely agree with you about the humor aspect. I laugh every single day and that really lightens even the darkest days.
Love werewolves and dragons. <3
We're installing a wood burning stove this year, so I can't wait to read in front of the fire as you do. I bet it's super cozy.
Hello! Any new releases that you are excited about?
Hi Susan! :waves:
Other than WHAT A WEREWOLF WANTS, I’m excited about the newest full-length in my sweet and sassy contemporary series, THE COWBOY ROPES A BRIDE. I love contemporary as much as I love paranormal which is saying a lot, and I’m proud of how both books turned out.
I’m also extremely excited for J.R. Ward’s newest THE BEAST since Rhage is my hands-down favorite brother from the Brotherhood.
Hi, I was wondering which of your degrees you found most challenging to achieve?
Hi Bethany! Thanks for stopping by.
That’s such a great (and original) question! I received at BA in psychology and English from Humboldt State and had the time of my life. I could hardly consider that work, so that’s not it. I earned my MA in cross-cultural education from National University two years later. Although the coursework was a medium-light workload, I was teaching high school English during the day, and going to five hours of school every evening. That was beyond difficult, especially as I became pregnant with our first child. So I guess it was the combination-the perfect storm of work and school-that made my MA the most challenging.
Hi Kristin,
Welcome to Bitten by BOOKS, it is great to have you here with us today.
My question for you is; do you have a FAVORITE BOOK or SERIES that you have written so far????
If so, which is it and why????
Hi Brandy,
Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I’m definitely feeling right at home.
Hmm…as for favorite book and series I’ve written so far, choosing would be like choosing which child I like better. I like certain things about each one. I know that may sound like a safe answer, but it’s the truth. I love the sweet warm fuzzies I get from my Blue Lake and Kiss County Bachelor series. I love the super strong Alpha males, feisty heroines, and fated mate thread in my Seattle and San Francisco Wolf Pack books. I love the dark, ominous underworld in my Vampires of Crimson Bay Series and the enchantment in my Isle of Feralon novellas. So I guess they’re all my favorites.
Do you have a guilty pleasure when it comes to your favorite shows or books?
Guilty pleasure…well, I will say I looooove DEADLIEST CATCH. I’m a super fan. I’ve watched every single episode (multiple times) since the first show aired in 2005. I’m a bit addicted and I can’t really pinpoint why. But when the show comes on, I make sure I’m home, it’s quiet, and I’m on the couch.
I never know what to ask here. I guess I’ll ask what actor(s) you’d want to play the roles of the characters in your book (if it would be made into a movie)?
Hi Linda! What a great question! If I were to pick actors to play the roles of characters in my book, I would say Joe Magnaniello (if he had blue eyes) for Ryder McManus and Scarlett Johansson (with light brown hair) for Josie Cole. Talk about a dream team!
What is your favorite part of being a writer?
Definitely THIS.
I love talking with and meeting readers. That’s my favorite part by far. I mean, crafting the stories is fun, seeing the covers is a thrill, but writing books is HARD-the most difficult career I’ve ever had. Getting to stop by Bitten by Books and visit with readers like you totally make the gig worth it. <3
Hi Kristin!
What are some of your favorite places in San Francisco?
Before I got married my dating requirements were:
1. A sense of humor- had to be able to make me laugh
2. Intelligence- I also have to be able to have an actual conversation. Pretty is fun- Smart is sexy.
3. That Spark- maybe its because they are good looking, or one particular feature is interesting- but there has always been an X factor for me. Something sort of intangible that draws me to someone.
I am a pretty tried and true vampire gal myself but I venture out into the fae & were world frequently.
In the winter I like to curl up on the couch with the dogs and a fuzzy blanket. Generally some spiked hot cocoa or apple cider…but those are just details.
Love your list! And I love the image you’ve crafted for an evening full of reading. Sounds downright divine!
Some of my favorite places in SF are Bourbon & Branch, the speakeasy. (It’s featured in the book.) I also love Fort Point, the Presidio, and crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. Johnny Foley’s Irish Pub and the Dueling Pianos is a ton of fun. The California Academy of Sciences is AMAZING. I’m in awe every time I go. Alcatraz, too. I guess those are tourist-y places, but I love them just the same.
If you decided to step out of your comfort zone what is the first thing you would wish to do?
Hi Mary!
Stepping out of my comfort zone? Not sure I know exactly what you mean, but I’m afraid of heights and speed, so jumping out of a plane freaks me the hell out. I suppose if that’s what you mean, I would jump out of a plane.
What about you?
which author in history was your greatest inspiration..
My all-time favorite book is Rebecca by Daphne DuMauier. It’s dark, full of tension, mystery, and romance. It’s the only book I’ve re-read, and I’ve read it five times over. DuMaurier was such a spectacular storyteller-one I admire more than words.
What about you? Any authors who stand out as inspirational?
I grew up being a shakespeare nut… along with Twain… then I went on to Kathleen Woodiwiss and Rosemary Rogers…. once I fell in love with romance I stayed hooked
From any of your books, what has been one of your favorite scenes to write?
My favorite scenes to write are the action scenes-the ones where there is a fight or werewolves shifting. Those scenes seem to write themselves. I usually write 5 pages a day, but on those really fun chapters I can write 10-15 without it seeming very difficult. The words just flow!
humor… married a comedian tattooed biker
bathtub
vampires…. loved edward cullen in twilight
To answer your giveaway questions:
Good-hearted nature
Yes, werewolves are still my favorite.
My favorite place to read, any time of the year, is in my room.
Those are great! Thanks for stopping by!
What are you reading right now or what’s on your TBR?
I’m currently reading a book in one of my all-time favorite series: The Recruit by Monica McCarty. While I’m not normally a historical romance fan, her Highland Guard series is oh-so-good. I can’t get enough.
Do you have a favorite place you like to write?
Hi Zonell,
I like to write in the dark corner of a local cafe. They serve the BEST snicker bar mochas and let me occupy a table for hours on end. The chairs are super comfy, and there are plenty of places to sit with my back to a wall…so no one can see the steamy scenes being written while I sit.
1.A sense of humor is tops followed by a love of kids and elders
2. It jumps from werewolves to vamps depending on what I’m reading
3. I live to pile up next to the woodstove with a warm drink
Love of kids and elders is a must! Thanks for stopping by!
hi Kristin,
do you have a favorite place to write?
Hi Dina! Thanks for stopping by. I love my local coffee shop. It’s quiet and they serve sugary drinks. Couldn’t ask for more.
who is your favorite author?
I have so many! My all-time favorite book is Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier, and I love everything else she has written. For historical romance, I like Monica McCarty. For paranormal. J.R. Ward. For suspense, Allison Brennan. For contemporary, Kristan Higgins.
What about you?
Hi Kristin! Did you enjoy teaching middle school or high school kids more?
Hi Shawna!
While I enjoyed both (that really is the P.C. answer, isn’t it?), those middle school students cracked me up every day. They’re still goofy and not worried about being “too cool”. I like tenth grade curriculum best, but I would say my favorite grade to teach is eighth.
That’s makes sense. I do remember everyone getting very serious in high school, all of a sudden. I agree with you about curriculum too. I went to a few different schools and middle school bored me to tears, class-wise, but high school was always lot of fun for English.
I’m not looking for anything because I was lucky enough to find it. But my must have’s are: Honor, compassion, kindness, honesty, loyalty, friendship, integrity, common interests, compatible personalities, similar-ish politics and an absolute lack of game-playing or passive-aggressiveness. I really like a good sense of humor and prefer intelligence and some persuasion of spirituality, though I wouldn’t say lasts are musts (but I found them anyway). Lol. Gee, I didn’t ask for much, did I?
For shapeshifters werewolves are my favorite. For other supernatural types I like faeries and vampires.
My favorite places to read are bed and my backyard, and in winter bed trumps the yard. I read almost everywhere though, and I get absolutely panicky if I don’t have a book with me, even if I never get a chance to crack it while I’m out. Books are a security blanket for me, I guess.
Congrats on finding your perfect guy. I was lucky enough to find mine too.
Yay for werewolves getting your vote!
Books are like a security blanket for me, too. In my car right now, you’d find a print book and a kindle, and if for some reason I can’t find those I have the kindle app on my phone.
Can’t be without a book.
Thanks! Congrats to you too!
Yeah, I completely get that. I don’t have a tablet right now, but then I did I had he Kindle and Audible apps on it and a basic e-reader, too. Now I have them on my phone and the Kindle app on my laptop too.
What types of books do you like to read ?
As a child, what did you want to do/be when you grew up?
Who is your favorite Muppet and why?
Humor and kindness are important, and lately I think I need someone who knows how to put things in perspective/get me on an evener keel when things get stressful.
I’ve never really had a favorite shifter, though I’d like to see more birds!
Anyplace with a fireplace, warm drinks, or thick quilts works for me!
Have your job experiences ever found a way into your books? What was the worst job you ever had? The best?
1) Personal hygiene and tidiness. I couldn’t stand being with a slob or a scruffy stinker.
2) (Were)wolves and big cat shifters are my favorites.
3) On the couch near the window.
Sorry I am just now getting in on this. I have been having the worst week a mother could have…
If you could only give ONE piece of advice to newbie authors and writers, what advice do you think is the most important one to give? One PRO to becoming an author? One CON to becoming an author?
So tell me, what were - are you looking for? Do smoking-hot looks come first? Humor? Goodhearted nature? I’m dying to know what you’d put as a must-have on your hypothetical dating application!
— -Laughs- My eighteenth wedding anniversary is coming up (near the end of March)… Mostly, good-natured, has a sense of humor, does not drink or smoke too much (I am big on the drinking thing, he cannot be an alcoholic grew up with a dad that was one.)…
Are werewolves still your number one favorite shapeshifter or is it another type?
— Sorry, no… Dragons would be my favorite shapeshifter. Now if it was in the world I am creating, I love my changelings (they can shift into any animal) or my tree shifters
Favorite go to place to read in the winter months?
— Cuddled on the couch, with an electric blanket, with my three weenie dogs cuddled next to me.
Do you have any current favorite shows or books?
love that excerpt. And my question is if you could have three folks to dinner living, dead, real, or imaginary who would they be and why?
What other books are you looking forward to being released this year?
