Bitten by Books

Woooo!
So cool. I was number two to vote! Awesome. ~laughs~
I picked Mercy because she is just so kick ass. She just inspires confidence and even when stuff is getting thrown at her she doesn’t back down. She’s a fighter. I like that.
I had to go with Rachel Morgan, but only because Joanna Archer from Vicki Pettersson’s Zodiac Series wasn’t an option.
I went for Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris because I like her and because she is the only one I know well.
Wow-I never get to comment this early! Yea, Twitter! I picked RAchel Morgan, although I love that Sookie, too. Rachel is flawed and human, but also never gives up and never gives in.And she is super-loyal to her friends, whatever their shape, size or species. Besides, I’m pro-Witch! Don’t worry-I’ll pass it on!
Definitely Jaz Parks. The banter between her and Vayl, her and Cole, heck her and anybody makes me snort coffee. And seriously, she is kick butt!
I voted for Riley this time around. It is hard to pick!!
I had to pick from the hat and my Anita won for today. I love sooooo many of the others Faythe, Riley, Mercy,Georgina, Elena and Rachel this was the toughest one yet!!! Great polls Rach!!! Let’s keep them up!!
It was hard to decide… I went with Rachel Mariana Morgan in the end, though. My other choice would have been Georgina Kincaid.
I had to go with Faythe by Rachel Vincent! She is loyal, and going through so much! And I am waiting breathlessly for her next book! The last one just touched me!
It was hard to decide for two reasons: one, I’m not acquainted with all the heroines mentioned yet (oh noes!), and two, the ones I am acquainted with, I love to death. But in the end, I went with Kate Daniels. She’s just so kick-ass!
I’ll have to go with Georgina, she’s just amazing! She’s strong, smart, witty and sexy all wrapped up into one.
Wow that’s a tough one.. Of the ones I know I’m going to have to go with Anita Blake with Rachel Morgan as a VERY close second.
I voted for Faythe. I like most of the ladies listed but she is my favorite atm.
This was so very hard — tough choice but I went with Faythe.
As always, it was a tough decision. Love Elena and Faythe, but had to go with Mercy. She is tough, caring, and just plain good at kicking butt!! Got to love her!
Wow, what an outstanding group of women! It was difficult to choose but I decided on Rachel Morgan. I love female characters who are fierce, loyal, loving and intelligent. Rachel goes to any lengths for her friends and always tries to do what she thinks is right, even if it requires personal sacrifice. Kim Harrison has written a complex, emotionally gripping, dynamic character.
Very difficult decision…BUT, Faythe got my vote!! I like that she is a work in progress (she makes mistakes and learns from them) that still manages to take care of herself.
I would have to go with Anita Blake. But Sookie would be really close.
I voted for Georgina! Absolutely love her.
Dang between Rachel Morgan and Mercy Thompson… I’m trying to see which I like better.
I had trouble choosing between Kate Daniels and Jaz Parks! I love them both so very much ;-;
Mercy, Mercy, Mercy! Best UF out there and it’s because of Mercy. She’s just so at ease with herself. She knows who she is and she’s strong and kind and smart and funny.
Can you IMAGINE! I know NONE of these characters! I must research before voting!
I had to go with Rachel Morgan… That girl knows how to rock and a close second and third would be Anita Blake and Sookie Stackhouse….. I think I picked Rachel cause for some reason I can identify with her more…..
Cindy Mac
I vote for Anita Blake and Mercy Thompson in that order
Another tough pick! I went with Anita Blake/LKH. I have all her books and just finished Skin Trade. She’s changed alot and I know alot of people don’t like how things have gone with her but I will always root for her and all her men =)
No Eugenie Markham? The Black Swan is the butt kicker. Well, I ended up voting for Georginia Kincaid. Most of the other heroines are still on my TBR pile.
Jaz! Totally awesome. She has just about everything. So exciting. Love it!
Had to go with Faythe, she is growing but still full of fire! Kai charles
Come on Jaz fans! Rally!! Let’s prove that small redheads do have the most fun. : )
I voted for Mercy. Kate Daniels was a very close second. If Kitty Norville had been an option then the decision would have been made that much harder!
Out of those characters, I went with Richelle Mead’s Georgina.
I had to go with Jaz Parks. Her humor and quick witted banter is right up my alley.
Oh, the agony!!! As I have read all but two of those series, it was so hard! First I had Rachel, then changed to Georgina, then Kate, but ultimately I had to go with Mercy. Seriously, though, they’re all worthy of the best heroine title. Awesome poll guys.
I had to chose Faythe.. i actually randomly picked out of 7 of them.. i couldn’t decide.
isn’t there going to be an easy poll soon :p this time I ended up voting for Mercy
Elana from kelley Armstrongs books!
She can kick ass and i just adore her…and her man
There are many great authors and heroines on that list. My vote went for Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan though. Rachel’s loyalty to her friends and family is fierce, she proves that the world is not easily defined as good versus evil. Rachel Morgan IS the gray area of black and white thinking. I love that Earth Witch, demon curses and all.
These are always so hard to pick. I went with Elena from Kelley Armstrong’s series. She is tough but kind. And has overcome a lot during the series without ever giving up.
I voted for Mercy because she’s not the toughest women in the world, but she’s not afraid to get her hands dirty. She’s brave, and knows how to take care of herself. She has her own problems, but is always willing to help others. If Mercy were a real person, I’d be proud to call her my friend, but since she’s not, I’m more than happy to read about her adventures.
I can’t believe that you’re making me pick between Mercy, Georgina and Kate!!
I picked Kate only because I just discovered her and she’s just as great as my other two favs.
I voted for Mercy. She is a real person and I love her attitude!
Woo! Go Jazz!
C’mon seriously, chick assassin who kills vamps and other paranormal creatures for a living? She’s like the best of the bunch.
Heard about the poll from another webbie and thought I’d share my feelings.
Georgina Kincaid: Not your typical heroine, but none the less awesome.
My vote is for Anita Blake. Her world is great!!
THIS IS SO NOT FAIR!!!!how do you sleep with yourself at night rachel, making us choose from these amazing characters!!lol
iam really really really stuck on who to choose …….
my top choices are,in no order
mercy,rachel,anita,sookie,elena,faythe
(i confess that i dont know the others)
so drum roll please for the winner…..
……MERCY
ive gone with mercy this time because what shes gone through in the last two books just about breaks my heart!i know all the charachters listed have gone through some bad sh!t lately but what women/girl can bounce back from one of the worst things that can happen to a women!
toodles guys

My vote is for Mercy Thompson. Anita began well but I don’t like where she is now. I like Mercy (and her world) a lot.
I decided Mercy, too.
Elena has always been my favorite. Now that I am reading Patricia Briggs MErcy Thompsom Series I am really loving her too.
But I ELENA is one tough chick with a bada** werewolf at her side. She is not scared to risk herself for those she loves. She is a strong and amazing mother. She can kick butt… what more can I say!!!!
…..Anticipating Frostbitten…….
My favourite heroine would be Rose Hathaway from Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series, rather than Georgina from her Succubus series. So I voted for my second favourite, which is Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews. She’s awesome, very tough but vulnerable too, and she gets scared, she’s not always sure she’ll be the one to walk away alive. Can’t wait to see what happens next for her.
Although all the heroine’s mentioned are awesome, my vote was for Rachel Morgan. Why? She just kind of strikes me as my favorite heroine. She makes mistakes and has lots of troubling twists and turns on the path of life but still finds a way to come back from it all. Rachel deals with a lot of the real life problems I think a witch would if she really existed and the world came to actually go through all said events in The Hollows series. Nothing is ever given easy for her, and there never seems to be the ultimate happy ending that we classically assume with books, which makes Rachel an ideal heroine to me.
JAZ JAZ JAZ Scary, yet vulnerable. And has the best undead boyfriend EVER!
Let me get a coin. I picking out of Kate Daniels and Georgina Kincaid.
Heads = Georgina.
It’s tails!!!
I guess that means I’m picking Kate Daniels
This was a tough one, I like Elena and Faythe although I really like Rachel Morgan too. Decided on Elena in the end because Faythe and Rachel are more indecisive and ‘scatty’ than Elena.
Geezzz, what a hard choice, but I had to go with Mercy Thompson, mostly because Yasmine Galenorn’s girls weren’t there. Mercy is a great character, I love that she mechanic and while she “knows her place” she’s willing to step outside that box.
Starla
There’s just one choice for me and I have had the pleasure of “meeting” ALL of the heroines above.
J A Z P A R K S!
Jennifer Rardin’s Jaz Parks is equal parts of fast and witty, strong and likable, and best of all— tough YET vulnerable.
The consistent ‘you can look but don’t touch’ relationship with Vayl is very sexy and doesn’t leave you feeling like a sex fiend.
It’s a hard one to pick but it’s gotta be Jaz all the way!
Faythe by Rachel Vincent because shes a great figure for how strong women are today!
It’s great to see Elena on this list!! She’s my pick. I love Kelley Armstrong’s no nonsense werewolf!
Although this is a great lineup of characters, I have to go with
JAZZ PARKS
If you haven’t read this series yet you need to add it to your TBR. It is full of butt kicking action, romance and page-turning suspense!
Though difficult, I feel Elena’s character needed the recognition. She’s so genuine - i adore her
Jaz all the way.
She’s just an amazingly strong heroine, she’s got her quirks and secrets.. Just amazing (:
Plus, Jennifer Rardin is my hero. So there.
But what about Kitty, the werewolf from Carrie Vaughn’s series? Who doesn’t love a werewolf named Kitty?
Kate Daniels - I love Ilona’s work! (Kelley’s Elena would be second choice)
I had to go with Rachel Morgan from the Hollows. I still love Anita, but Rachel is my favorite.
well I know this sounds horrid and snarky but I don’t really like any of those Heroines listed-LOL-my choice would have been Cat from Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series or Kitty Norville from Carrie Vaughn’s Kitty Norville series-I know, I’m awful-LOL
If Eve from SJ Day’s Marked books had been an option, I would totally have picked her (addicted to that series!). Instead, I voted for Mercy; she’s down to earth for a UF character, but she’s kick a$$ too which I love in a heroine!
I voted Anita Blake because she was the first of the lot that I fell in love with.
I love many of the choices, but I had to pick Rachel Morgan. She is my favorite. and a redhead like me
Mercy was my choice - didn’t even hesitate. She’s a tough gal who knows what she wants and doesn’t let the bad assed guys push her around. Definitely a woman after my own heart.
OOOO This is a tough one, great heroines all! I had to choose Kate Daniels though, I love the mix of hard kicking, soft hearted woman who acknowledges her mistakes and tries to learn by them.
While I am very excited ’cause Richelle Mead is coming to BBB, I am voting for Mercy Thompson. Or Kate Daniels. No, Mercy. Wait, no, Kate. Okay, just a sec (gets out a coin and flips it). Does anyone know: when you call it in the air and it comes down heads does that mean that name called wins or the other one? Darn it! I’ll just pick…
Mercy T is the is my choice because she has a “take no prisioners” attitude. Plus she is an ordinary woman with just a little extra in her arsenal. She doesn’t allow herself to take a beating without trying to get up.
I am new to this realm of reading, but quickly becoming addicted!! As for this moment I am ALL about ANITA BLAKE.
The others now have my attention so I must get busy reading.
OMG! how do you choose? i swear i sat there for literally ten minutes trying to figure out which heroine to vote for… i love them all!! in the end i decided to go for Mercy T. how could you not love a woman who tries her best to hold her own against tough alphas when she has hardly any powers of her own?! i completely love Jaz though.. she has to the funniest out of the whole lot!
I love Mercy, she is one of my favorite characters.
Rachel Morgan, hands down! She’s tough, she struggles, she kicks major ass! And her character develops so subtly through a very long series! I’ve gotta vote for my favorite witch, with a shout out to her vampire and pixie comrades!
I voted for Georgina. I love a woman who knows who she is and is not afraid to take a stand.
I had a hard time choosing between Mercy, Elena, and Rachel, but I finally chose Mercy. She’s one of my favorite characters ever!
I went with Anita-(old habits die hard)-she is the original heroine
I voted for Georgina Kincaid. I had to use a randomizer to pick; so hard.
I voted for Elena it was a very hard choice because Mercy is a favorite of mine also.
I had to go with Mercy-Iron Kissed really brought a new dimension to her character.
I’m a big Jaz fan. she has all the foibles of us, but she still manages to kick butt.
Jazz…I love her…she’s not ashamed of her love for her country (very rare these days)…she has her idiosyncrasies, her insecurities and doubts…but she still believes in good and evil, right and wrong…might be hokey, but it’s what I love. And she kicks butt and looks good doing it. What is NOT to love!!!!
Wow so many its hard to choose, I love most of the ones listed and also I have to put out a sorry you didn’t make it to Archer (Vicki Petterson) as well as a certain Kitty. Anyway, going to vote with my heart rather than my head so going for Jaz.
Wow, this one is SO hard! I picked Mercy Thompson - I adore her, she is so strong without being too ‘hard’… but i LOVE so many of the other heroines as well. I’m surprised Jeaniene Frost’s Cat isn’t listed as well - she’s definitely among my favorites.
I had to pick Riley Jenson by Keri Arthur. I love this series. I also really like the series by Rachel Vincent. I look forward to the new books in both series.
I chose Elena, because she is such a strong character, and she actually got me to appreciate werewolves, when previously I was a vamps only kind of girl!
This was a toughie, but I finally went with Elena. Kelley’s WOmen of the Otherworld is my favortie series right now… I love her balance of action and romance…
Lisa
Mercy Thompson for sure, with Elena a close second.
I love Kate but really can anyone beat Jaz. I think not. I’ve read books about all the other ladies and none of them can compete with Jaz.
Hard to decide. Love Mercy AND Kate. Closed my eyes to pick and Mercy won!
Rachel Morgan she a red headed witch. What’s not to love?
Tough choices. I’ve also only read five of the ten series listed…so that narrowed down my choices a bit!
For me, it’s a toss-up between Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson-love them both-but I ultimately went with the indomitable Kate perhaps because she does indeed seem more indomitable. Mercy is wonderful, and I love the books (just finished Bone-Crossed), but Kate is a little more kick-butt, y’know? The woman has chops, and I like that in a heroine.
‘Course, when I someday read all the other series, my choices may change, lol!
I voted for Rachel Morgan…I just really like that she’s perfectly messed up, but always works it out! LOL. I also really like Sookie, but Rachel gets to kick more butt….
Dude, KATE DANIELS! I totally LOVE Mercy Thompson too….Man, tough choice though. Sookie and Faythe are also awesome. And why isn’t Cat from the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost included in the poll?? She’s kick-ass too!
Tough vote!
I picked Faythe Sanders by Rachel Vincent because she just has it all against her. She overcomes so much in that series it’s not even funny. After reading Prey I am forever a Rachel Vincent fan. I can NOT wait for Shift coming March 2010!
Good poll!! had to go with kate daniels, but my other choices would have been Georgina and then Riley and then Mercy (mercy last because i just started reading that series)
Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews. I really love a few of the others…MOST of the others, actually, but Kate is special.
I had to go with Faythe as, supernatural stuff aside, she seems the most like a real person.
I voted for Mercy! I love the Mercy Thompson books, and the world Patricia Briggs has created. She is strong, caring, funny and independent.
Come on guys! Faythe’s an awesome character! Admittedly, a little immature at first, but she’s a lot of fun and does a lot of growing up, some of which we get to see in Pride!
Go Faythe!
Okay, there’s some incredible heroines in this list, but my all time fav is Kate Daniels. She’s a great cook, can kick anyone’s butt and has a real depth to her insecurities. Watching her grow throughout the series has been a real treat for me. So it’s KATE for moi.
Halfway to the grave - by Jeaniene Frost
Cat - she is half vampire and all kick ass. She has had a tough childhood but still keeps a sense of humor about herself and life.
I went for Jaz aka Lucille Robinson. She is one awesome lady, with all the hard knocks shes taken she is still fighting. It helps that whenever I am reading a Jaz Parks novel I am either biting my nails in anticipation or about to pee myself from the hilarity.
Wow, this was actually an easy one for me - Faythe Sanders!
The few on here I’ve read, I’m not fans of (sorry Georgina!) but I have yet to read some of the others, so I think that’s what made it easy, haha.
Faythe or Rachel or Riley???Tough choice.
I went with Faythe, she’s tough as nails and can kick any guys butt.well so could the other two ladies
I had to vote for Kate Daniels because she’s a strong heroine with a great sarcastic sense of humor and she kicks butt.
I went with Kate Daniels as she started off rough, but has grown into a likeable character. Plus, she drives Curran crazy which is always run to read. And she doesn’t whine. She kicks butt and has her own honor code she does follow.
I voted for Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels - I love the fact that she’s a kick ass heroine that doesn’t take crap from others; she doesn’t roll over and take it - she gives it. I love the fact that she’s not your average heroine, cooing at the main hunk - she doesn’t put up Curran’s crap.
JAZ PARKS but seriously you gave me WAY too many great choices!!
Kate all the way!
Had to go vote for my favorite telepathic barmaid. Sookie Stackhouse Rules!
Kate rules!! No second thoughrs, no hesitation. The others are all fine people, but no one does it like Kate (aka Ilona)
Jaz Parks kicks ass! She’s so sarcastic and tough and wounded, all of which, I find, make a perfect combination. Plus…I LOVE her boss!!!
GO JAZ!!!
Wow, that was a seriously hard decision. But I had to go with Jaz.
Well, it’s a totally tough choice, since many of these series are some of my absolute favorites. (In the middle of the new Anita Blake right now, as a matter of fact, and already read the new Sookie book, and the newest Mercy book) They are all awesome!
But I really think I’m going to have to vote for Jaz Parks. She is just a lot of fun, even when she knows things are going bad and tries to make the best of a bad situation. Her interactions with Vayl are absolutely priceless! She’s also tough despite being very vulnerable.
Deff, Voted for Faythe I love her to death. She reminds me a lot of myself when I was younger.
Ooh I had to think about this one. It was a toss up between Elena / Kate / Mercy. Kate won, mainly because she’s a smartass which is my besetting sin, so I relate. I like her independence too, and the fact that she’ll ask for help when outweighed. Cool poll - most of these are genuinely strong women, not just kickass.
Mercy Thompson, although I was torn over Sookie and Kate Daniels. Mercy is smart, stubborn, loyal, and caring. She’s one of the few characters that has captured my attention (and held it) from page 1. I can’t wait for her next adventure.
Very hard decision, all of these characters had a unique personality and take on their world and are all very readable. I am going with Anita Blake, because she turned me on to strong female characters in paranormal/urban fantasy storylines, and now these stories make up more than 90% of my reading list.
I’m voting for Riley Jensen. I love the way that character is growing and getting stronger without losing any of the traits that we’ve grown to love.
I voted for Faythe Sanders by Rachel Vincent. She is quite headstrong and seems to get herself into situations because of it. She doesn’t like being told what to do, even when it is for her own good. But she also does what she believes is best for the people she loves, even if they don’t agree.
Tough choice! Stuck between Kate and Mercy, I had to go with Kate Daniels, just because I feel like she’s got so much more that’s unresolved at this point in her series. Weird way to chose, I know, but I love them both!
I picked Georgina because she’s so great and original and sacarstic.
Love Richelle Mead
Oh man! Faythe or Mercy??? Okay, I voted for Faythe! That doesn’t mean I won’t be promoting this to some Mercy loving fans as well though!
Ok once again I love the whole line up and I am going to first dicide….. which are most like me?….and of those…..who’s life would I most want to live?
Or I could just flip a coin, because the above criteria just doesn’t help me narrow things down by much….
There are sooooooooooo many great Heriones in this poll. I could only pick one and I chose, Kate Daniels. She is the most unlike me. She is witty, tough as nails, and drives her love interest Curran *ROWR* insane.
I voted Kate, but adore Mercy as well.
Kate Daniels, because she’s one of a kind!
(kind of a woman that greets the Beast Lord with “here, kitty, kitty”)
I voted for Mercy Thompson. I love that series. I also like Elena from Kelley Armstrong’s series and Faythe from Rachel Vincent’s series. I read Anita and I like Sookie but Mercy just kicks butt.
Heather
I voted for Georgina Kincaid (one of a few it seems!) because any girl that works for the dark side, yet still has me rooting for her - and even seeing her point of view - has to get my vote!
I voted for Kate Daniels. Kate is part human, and part god. She is struggling to maintain her humanity and use her powers for good. Kate is hard as a diamond and twice as bright, but she has an amazingly soft heart. Not only that, she makes me laugh. Ilona Andrews is a gifted storyteller.
kate daniels - she’s so human. tough, believes in herself and her abilities but in her tired or weaker moments shows her insecurities and weaknesses. i love watching her grow as a person in each book - opening herself to others and situations. love her.
Can I just vote for all of them? I had to go by a process of elimination. If they weren’t my favorite female for the universe, I voted for someone else.
That left Riley. Who I am glad was finally included in something.
She’s the one I most want to be.
I voted for Kate by Ilona Andrews. It is hard to say why except she is such a unique character. There are a lot of kick a$$ heroines on the market right now. But Kate makes them look like “Kick a$$ light” She’s got a real edge but she isn’t infallible. The way she reacts to situations is completely practical yet she has moments where her heart definately rules her decisions. Although I gotta admit, most if not all of the heroines are absolutely great.
of course i had to vote for jaz parks, my all-time favourite book heroine!!! but all the other candidates were great too!
nice selection, but in the end i had to go with my loyaltys. to much of a fan not to vote
x x x x
I voted for Kate Daniels. Why? Besides Sookie, I think she would be the only one who would actually take the advice of going to therapy to work on her issues.
All of these characters have some real deep psychological flaws where I just want to scream GET SOME THERAPY!
Kate Daniels, all the way.
Wow this was tough choice… I was 50/50 between Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson… but Ilona Andrew’s Kate has topped the lead by a bit… ugh but I Lurv Patricia Brigg’s Mercy too! Both are strong, competent, take-charge beautiful characters. The strong alpha males they are attracted to only enhance how smart and funny they are in all situations.
I had to go with Mercy, a little bit broken, but standing tall despite everything. Ya gotta love that in a main. Ilona Andrew’s Kate comes in a very close second for me though.
I have to say Jaz Parks. Although Anita Blake is damn close second.
Jaz is more able to use her anger more often. Not by much, admittedly, but enough.
xox
Hello,
I was wondering why this time & the last when I voted I get the message “You have already voted in this Poll” when I haven’t?
I voted for Anita Blake in Laurell K. Hamilton’s Vampire Hunter Series but am not sure if it was counted…
Anita rocks & kicks butt while doing it…
Kate Daniels is my number one choice. She is funny and strong and kick-ass. I love how she drives the beast lord (Curran) crazy. Three books in and I am still loving the “will they-won’t they?” tension. I just love the progression of this series and I love Kate. Mercy was a very close second though. Those two are definitely my top favorite heroines.
Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews.
Kate’s such a strong character with a moral code that she never wavers on. I admire that, and I love the way Ilona (and Gordon) write her.
After Kate, it has to be Mercy.
I’m going with Kate. Tough,loyal,flawed.
What great list of ladies!
Tough choices! It’s a really tough call for me between Kate Daniels and Georgina Kincaid, but depressed Georgina (which is where I left her) loses points of awesome against her normal self, so Kate edged her out for the win.
I voted for Kate although Mercy came in a close second. I really love the fact that Kate is intelligent, educated and independent. She knows who she is and is secure in herself and doesn’t need a guy to validate her opinions. Even though she’s got Curran who is as strong a character as she is he doesn’t eclipse her and his strength in no way diminishes hers (I’m not talking about physical strength, I’m talking about strength of character).
They make a great team despite their differences and I love how even though Kate is attracted to Curran she never makes a fool of herself or acts out of character for the sake of a scene or for the sake of progression in their relationship.
I also like that she’s not at all arrogant even though she knows she’s got all that power and could beat down half of Atlanta’s bad guys. She’s very humble and low key. I think the clincher is that because of all these attributes she seems very real.
Many of the above mentioned reasons are why Mercy was a close second but I started reading the Kate series first so Kate won out.
Plus I like the fact that Kate knows exactly who she is and what her powers are. It’s a bit frustrating to me that Mercy’s are as much of a mystery to her as they are to us.
Oh man this was sooooo hard! I love Sookie and Jaz, but I had to go with Anita. She is the one who pulled me into this crazy, amazing, awesome world of vamps and weres and everything else!
I have to say that I love Anita Blake. I have a few new faves but Anita will be my Kick A** heroine for all time. Sookie, Rachel, and Riley are pretty awesome too.
It was a really hard choice between Mercy and Riley…..but I had to choose Riley. She’s been through it all and yet through it all she’s grown in so many ways. She’s smart, sexy, and tough. She wrestles “woman” issues that really keep her down to earth; i.e. should I hold out for my dream, should I compromise, am I good enough, am I tough enough.
As changes occur, some anticipated and some unanticipated, she rolls with the punches…even if she has to take a crying break to regroup.
I respect Mercy…she’s still evolving and growing, but Riley….I just had to choose Riley.
Mona
Kate is the best of all the heroines in this bunch, though I like Rachel, Riley, Mercy, and Elena too. If I were doing a ranking, Kate would be at the top of the pack.
Kate Daniels - flat out, she rocks! So does her world, her mission, all the other characters in the books! I love most of the characters on this list, but I have to say Kate Kate Kate!!!!!
I voted for Rachel Morgan. I love how she just keeps plugging along no matter what life throws at her. I just wish she’d give Ivy the ole heave-ho though!
Sookie gets my vote although I love Rachel, Elena, and Mercy too! There’s just something about Sookie’s character, her willingness to accept other’s differences because of her own “differentness” (yeah, I know that’s not a word LOL), that really appeals to me.
Mercy all the way. Love the rest but she is my fav.
I LOVE Faythe!
She’s emotionally strong, and physically she kicks butt!
WOO HOO!
Go Faythe!
its so hard to choose…but, it’s Kate
I really loved all the gals on the poll, and it was really hard to pick just one…but they all have a couple things that made me go, hmm…not her… so I decided on Mercy. She’s today’s favorite…
I chose Riley Jenson. She is so cool under stressful conditions. Someone else mentioned Kitty from Carrie Vaughn’s series. I really like her, too.
Oh my goodness, oh my goodness!!…. What a hard hard, hard choice!! I am going to have to vote for Faythe….When I read one of the PRIDE books, I just can not put it down! My fiance’ is not looking forward to the next book..he knows he will be ignored for the day!! Keep up the great work!
Gotta go with Jaz Parks!!!! She’s amazing!
Sookie is a close 2nd…. but….. Jaz is very cool, very much stornger and not saying oh save me AAH BIIL or AAH ERIIIC, etc, at the first sign of real trouble. She’s also very loyal to those she loves. Sookie…. well, she gets around!
Not to mention, Jennifer rardin is amazing and hihgly interactive!
Kate became my numero uno when she killed zombies. lol.
This poll got me to check out some series I’m not familiar with. Found some that are really interesting.
I chose Rachel Morgan, but it was a hard choice! Rachel won, though, because she stands up for herself, kicks ass, is realistically rash, and completely loyal to her friends. Also, Kim Harrison gave away tomato seeds at the signing I went to this weekend, so Rachel gets bonus points via her creator. : )
I heart Sookie & Anita, but my vote goes to the tough kitty, Faythe Sanders.
Kate Daniels! I find it strange that I have such a hard time with some of these polls… then ones like this come along and I’m like - read, click, done! No thinking involved… hmmm, strange. As for my choice… Kate Daniels is a very realistic heroine. Out of all the choices, she’s the one who I feel like I can literally “walk in her shoes” as I read.
I have to go with Jaz Parks because I love her inner banter with herself and her grandmother. I also love all the different references to tv shows and other books.
Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews
Curran is simply delicious
Kate Kicks ASS! ::grins::
I had to go with Kate Daniels, she is too wicked a character to miss! Although I love the rest of them too. She is just my favorite :))
I love most of these ladies, but if I have to choose…. Kate Daniels wins hands down. Kate ROCKS! I love her interactions with Curan.
Jaz Parks all the way!!!
oh crap…choices.
Katie - she keeps Curan “wild” and doesn’t always make the smartest moves…which just adds to her likability.
I voted for Jaz, her no-nonsense attitude and loyalties to what she cares about are two of the many traits that make her such a great character. Her adventures are always amazing. Go Jaz!!!!!
Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews
Kate FTW!
JAZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOOT!!!!!!!
thats all one really needs to say.
God such a hard decision i love four of the heroines in this poll lol.
Kate Daniels
Mercy Thompson
Sookie Stackhouse
Elena Michaels
They all lrock. Such fantastic characters. All written by Brilliant authors!
Hard to choose as always… I went with Kate but I really like both her and Mercy. They’re though and sensitive at the same time. And their POV can be so funny sometimes. Great heroines !
go mercy go!!!
can i just ask if anyone has heard on the grape vine if there will be another nadia stafford book(book3) by kelley armstrong..i know its not paranormal but kelley rocks no matter what she writes,i thought you guys would be in the know??ive got my list of up coming releases and just missing that one
cheers guys in advance,you rock
becca
rainy uk!!
ahhh, it would b a toss up between Anita Blake and Jaz Parks. I dont think i could choose either one….and considering ive only read them, sookie, rachel and riley.
so yeh, Jaznita? does that count?
why are there always sooo many good choices :O
Vampire thief
ok so i chose riley in the end, have to support fellow australians…
Definitely Kate Daniels, the series is awesome. Rachel Morgan and Mercy Thompson came pretty close.
Gotta go with Georgina. She’s amazing.
Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs!! My hubby’s a mechanic too
Elena Is one of my BEST EVER…. but I love Faythe too. So….. Faythe it was this time
Dandy
XxX
Mercy Thompson. They are all good, but Mercy is the best!
Faythe Sanders all the way!!!
Hard to decide as I like both Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson but I guess I have to go with Kate as I just love her humor! Kathy
While there are some excellent choices on that list, I have to go with Anita Blake as the ultimate heroine. She can kick bad guy ass like nobody’s business.
I find these polls interesting because the people I’m figuring will win, aren’t. How exciting.
I would have to vote for Mercy Thompson from the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. She stays true to herself, works hard to protect those she cares about, takes responsibility for her actions (especially when she puts her nose where it doesn’t necessarily belong) and has such a inner strength even when so HORRIBLY tested. She is clever, strong, fierce, determined and yet she is compassionate and loving. She is the best all around heroine!
On this one I have to go with Elena (Women of the Otherworld). Even given her situation, she has a deep-seated loyalty to her pack. She can kick ass with the best of them, but prefers to use her brain first and her brawn only when necessary.
This was the hardest poll ever. I love all of them! How do you decide who is the most kick @ss?
Go JAZ PARKS!!!
My two favs are Faythe and Mercy but as with all my votes I went with Faythe. Ugh can’t vote for them all. LOL
Its so obvious that it needs to be Georgina. Richelle Mead is a fantastic author.
Wow, this was hard. I voted for Kate Daniels because she got my youngest sister to enjoy reading again :D.
I choose Jaz Parks. And it is for a special reason… my wife is so much like her. She’s reliable, spunky and tough yet vulnerable and such a great piece of work.
The fast and smart mouth and sarcasm is really endearing.
Some parts of Rardin’s Jaz Parks series is uncannily familiar. Trust me on that.
I wish Catherine Crawfield by Jeaniene Frost was on this list. She’s totally kickass!
Wow, what a tough one. I went with Georgina, because I love Richelle Mead’s books, but Anita is a close second.
Sookie Stackhouse and Rachel Morgan are my top 2. Sookie is sweet, vulnerable, good-at-heart, loyal and true to her family and friends. She doesn’t let the bad she encounters embitter her but she learns from it. She doesn’t cower when there is a fight unless she is restrained.
Rachel Morgan is a Force of Nature. She’ll protect life but she won’t let anyone totally escape the consequences of their badness. She’s bad-ass strong, smarter than demons and does all of this while wearing high-heeled boots. She will fight until she hasn’t got anything left. Rachel gets my vote in the end.
went for Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris because I like her
Kate Daniels. Seriously, there’s no contest. She’s cool, strong, and awesome with a sword. Not to mention, Curran…*sigh*
I voted for Anita Blake by Laurell K. Hamilton ^.^; Hehe, she was one of the few I was acquainted with. I feel sad to say that - I really must find out more about the other heroines.
my vote for Kate Daniels. Not so familiar with the others, but she definitely gets my vote.
Had to be Kate: she reads!
Georgina Kincaid by Richelle Mead, ?
I totally vote for Faythe Sanders!! You just can’t beat a female kick-ass were-cat!
Have to vote for Sookie. She is the one I know best and am current on reading that series. After reading other votes, just have to move Jaz and Mercy to the top of my TBR pile.
Oh, yeah, Mercy Thompson. Personally I like Anna better, but still…. Briggs is an amazing author!
this was very hard as I like most of these ended up voting for Kate
I’d have to say Elena. She is definitely my favourite, but there were some pretty close seconds!
Jazz Parks! Need I say more…
Georgina Kincaid all the way! Kickass, smart, sexy, and witty and entertaining annd charming as can be, there is no heroine more enjoyable to read about in my experience!
Sorry but my vote gose to Faythe Sanders by Rachel Vincent, becuase reading this books have unforgettable they have ben like watchin a move that slowly divelops in you mind with every aspect of discription that Faythe gives thanks to Rachel Vincent for her grate mind, strength, and ability of writing. Keep it up Rachel =)
Whoa! This is an even tougher poll than the sidekicks one! Will have to give this some serious consideration and then sleep on it, as all of these ladies rock!
I choose Mercy in the end but I had a true struggle between here and Georgina!
I had to vote for Mercy cause even though she a shifter she’s not a very powerful one. But she does have a set up brass one all the same. Reminds me of me lol.
Well, after the help of my cat (who loves to chew on books) I choose… Jaz Parks, because they’re the only ones she hasn’t attacked yet.
I have to pick Jazz parks.
- she’s made red-heads hot.
- she can handle her weapons
- she gets vayl
nothing can beat that.
Kate Daniels!! Fantastic character. I love Sookie and Mercedes too…but gotta go with Kate
okay I think its a toss up but I have to vote for georgina from succubus blues. she first of all has been through tons of crap and has come out on top, second of all shes just basically very very kick ass. its a toughy it really is becuase I love elena and I love mercedes as well an anita. I just think that overall it has to be georgina. GO GEORGIE GO.
i voted for Georgina Kincaid simply cause she is the best and Richelle Mead is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!
It is absolutely Georgina Kincaid…….shes amazing
georgina kincaid
i am completely addicted to the series, i think i’ve read every book in 1 sitting each…lol i definitely don’t go by her 5-pages-a-day thing, i burn right through them and then reread them again!
Georgina Kincaid. I love that series <3
KATE!! She kicks butt and takes names like NO other, though I did love the early Anita.
I voted Georgina Kincaid…I’m only a few books in to the series (apparently they have to be ordered in here) but I think she is fantastic.
Richelle Mead is a very talented lady.
Right now, Mercy Thompson is favorite heroine. I like her sense of fairness and how she is willing to do whatever it takes to help those she cares about.
I am going to go with Victoria Gardella from the Gardella Chronicles by Colleen Gleason. Anyone who can kick a$$ in a ball gown gets my vote!
Definitely Kate, but Mercy is a close second. The “Magic” books are awesome.
I love Georgina Kincaid. She’s the perfect heroine - smart, witty and sexy with a heart of gold.
Wow!!!! another tough bunch to choose from. Had to go with Rachel, her character has grown so much, and gotten stronger with each book.
Faythe has my vote!!!!!!
Mercy Kate Mercy Kate Mercy Kate argggh…went with Kate because I thought Magic Strikes was better than Bone Crossed. Sorry Mercy *sniff*
Oh my-this a toughie! They’re all such kick**s gals, that I’m simply having a brain meltdown trying to decide. Right now, the one topping my list (and this changes daily!) is Faythe. She’s a ‘work in progress’; she’s growing even though she still holds her own against all that crosses her path…supernatural baddies *and* familial/political machinations. You go, girl!
I went with Mercy. I really liked her character. She wasn’t “into” fighting, only bringing it when she had to and then she could hold her own. I like that she didn’t switch guys a ton through out the series, that she had the two she couldn’t decided between and then chose one, instead of having a different boyfriend for each book. I liked that she was always trying to help other people.
This was a tough one, but I gotta go with Anita Blake…she can kick major ass, and I like strong heroines. Plus she’s the one that really got me into this genre. And the new book was great!
I would have to go with Georgina. One of my favorite series. Funny, witty, and interesting heorine.
I forgotto comment that I voted lol. I voted for Sookie. Just cuz True Blood is soon to be here.
Kate! She’s tough as they come, but it’s her wry sense of humor that moves her to the top of my list. And the tension between her and Curran…oh, my. I find myself grinning each time he comes into a scene. I can’t get enough of the “Magic” books!
I voted for Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson because I love that though she’s a paranormal character, she’s not super powerful. She’s a coyote among a pack of wolves who could tear her apart if they were so inclined and yet she holds her own.
Georgina Kincaid is definitely my favorite. She is strong, witty and sexy.
I like a lot of the series listed, but my favorite heroine is probably Mercy Thompson
It was a hard choice to make but I finally picked Anita Blake by Laurell K. Hamilton
I have to go with Mercy Thompson…love her. She is kick A and loves to kick A
I had to vote for Mercy Thompson. I love her.
Kate Daniels
It was hard to chose one but my heroine is Anita Blake. Laurell K. Hamilton was one of the first to write in this genre and Anita Blake was one of the first heroines in this genre.
She’s sexy, strong, intelligent and an absolute badass necromancer and vampire killer.
She’s one of the deepest and most elaborated characters in vampire fiction and even if I enjoy reading about Sookie or Rachel or Georgia, Anita is my Nr. 1.
Had to vote for Mercy Thompson, though I do really like Kate Daniels. Mercy is just a fun character, and I love how the coyote personality plays out.
I voted for Rachel Morgan.
Oops forgot to add why. I picked Rachel Morgan because she’s loyal and so real.
Kate Daniels for her sense of humor, loyalty, and protectiveness.
waa.. do you know how hard this is for me? I’m currently reading Magic Burns (omg curran x kate)
but I’m such a loyal Richelle Mead fan, I just had to choose her. haha..
>.<
But this is still so hard.
I haven’t read the books by Kim Harrison yet, (can’t be bothered. Is it any good?) and I’ve read were the first 4 pages.
Anyway, Richelle’s on the lead again! ^^
I had to vote for georgina … I could read richelle mead’s books over and over again they are that good.
this was so hard to chose, but I finally went with Rachel Morgan from Kim Harrison’s book. Love her to death!
Oh wow Georgie is in the lead!
And second is KATE DANIELS!
I still have to read magic strikes but I am so glad that the coin chose Kate Daniels for me. I love her morals and CURRAN.
At first he seemed like a jerk but I have to say I love the way Curran and Kate are so alike and yet they aren’t even officially together yet!
It’s a humorous and exciting series I suggest it to you all.
it was so hard but i finally voted for Georgina because she is awesome,i love her, and she kicks ass!
Sookie; I can’t believe that she goes through all that and never swears! She is funny, independent and has by far and away the most difficult job.
Go Georgina! I love her spunk and her awesome attitude. I love her witty humor and even her awesome succubus powers. She goes through so many demonic problems and is amazingly creative it’s hard not to admire her.
this poll isn’t as busy as one of the others I’ve voted on.
But I have to say that the results are extremely close.
We just need a couple more people to vote for Kate Daniels in order for her to win
Wow, at least six of those heroines are favorite, or extremely well liked heroines for me. But I voted, and since you can’t pick more than one, my current favorite is Kate Daniels. I love that she’s a smart ass, and that she doesn’t always say her smart ass comments out loud, sometimes they are in her head (smarter than some). I love the world that Ilona Andrews has created and the supporting cast that goes along with Kate Daniels. Kate Daniels is tough, and smartass, though not always in-your-face tough. She also seems to be accepting of others, with out the self righteousness that some of the other heroines tend to develop. I’m enjoying all the others, but all-time favorite- Kate Daniels!
Georgina Kincaid by Richelle Mead
Richelle is such an inspiration for me and she deserves this vote more than anyone else!!
Georgina all the way. You have to admire a girl who can hold her chin high even when her heart is being broken (which happens alot). Next April is so far away
Of the characters there, Mercy Thompson is overwhelmingly the most tenderly written and aware of her weaknesses, which is quite endearing. The self-awareness bit is key.
With some of the other heroines, it is frustrating that other heroines seem to end up emotionally unbalanced without any insight as to how they got there. They either succumb to self pity and inability to take responsibility for their own part in their unhappy situations (and/or have some interesting communication/trust issues), or, on the flip side, they come across tough-as-nails and I-don’t-need-your-sympathy. At that point, I tend to stop reading — luckily, I have never had that complaint with Mercy yet.
Damn! I love all these girls. But I have to stick to my loyalties. Anita came before all.
Faythe fo’ sho’! Lol. But no, seriously. I love Faythe! She is such the perfect mix of brains (grad student, remember?), beauty, and muscle (only female enforcer) that makes her so irresistible to Marc, the entire male werecat population and her audience.
Looks like Georgina is going to win. I do love her, but was hoping Rachel Morgan would win.
Hands down Kate Daniels! Clearly most of you hae not read Ilona Andrews books!
Georgina Kincaid all the way!!!!
