Screen Bites: Zombies, Sin-eaters, and Angels, Oh My!

Watchers, this week we will discuss just a few shows, as I am still trying to catch up on my viewing, and later in the column I will be asking for your input.

Grimm, Friday, 9:00 EST, NBC
So, how have you liked the first two episodes of the new season? It was pretty much a given that Zombie Nick couldn’t stick around too long, which I imagine is one reason he didn’t end up in Europe. Also, by having him rampage through the Portland area there is more at stake if anyone recognizes him.

Does anyone else wonder if Renard’s brother is still alive? If he is, will someone else pick up the mantle of going after Nick?

Speaking of Nick, it seems his “Lazarus Syndrome” changed him a bit, and I’ll be interested to see what else surfaces. Any guesses?

I do wonder what or who will be the “big bad” this season. What do you think?

Sleepy Hollow, Monday, 9:00 EST, Fox
I really am enjoying Sleepy Hollow; I love the tone, the production values, the characters. It’s nice when a new show hits the ground running and immediately captures your attention.

If you are a fan, you have probably heard the show has already been picked up for a second season. The bad news: this season is only 13 episodes, which means we almost halfway through already.

What do you think of the show? Who are your favorite characters?

And speaking of characters, does anyone else think there is a lot more to the captain than he is letting on?

Supernatural, Tuesday, 9:00 EST, The CW

As much as I love the show and all of its ongoing battles between good and the various guises of evil, I truly loved the fourth episode, with Charlie and the Oz storyline, which was a bit of a departure. We have discussed here before how the show needs those types of episodes to serve as stress-breakers. How did you like this episode?

I thought the way the Oz mythology was incorporated was really well done, and since I would be very surprised if we never saw Charlie again, I think we may hear more about it in the future.

My favorite quote: “I took down a teen-aged vampire and a ghost. It sounds like a YA novel if you say it out loud” (Charlie telling Dean and Sam about her foray into hunting).

As far as Sam being inhabited by an angel, how much longer do you think that will go one before he finds out? And what about Cas-we know he has to come back. How long do you think it will take? We never saw if Charlie figured out how to use the lair (what I call the bunker) computer system to track angels.

How are you enjoying the show so far this season?

So, Watchers, what shows would you like to discuss here on a regular basis? I know we have a lot of interest in Grimm, Once Upon a Time (which I still need to catch up on), and I’ll definitely cover Being Human and Lost Girl when they return in January, but it’s useful to me to know which others you are most likely to want to chime in about.

Choices: Dracula, Haven, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Ravenswood, Sleepy Hollow, Supernatural, Teen Wolf (when it returns in January),The Originals, The Vampire Diaries, The Witches of East End.

Happy viewing!

  1. GRIMM
What I like to know is what Adalind has planned. That was kind gross what the gypsy woman had her do to that body. So it makes one wonder what that spells for Nick and them.

    SLEEPY HOLLOW
I rather like Ichabod Crane. He is rather hot.

    SUPERNATURAL
My middle son and I are up-to-date on Supernatural. Eventually Sam is going to wisen up to the oddness going on. So far he has let Dean explain it away.

To be frank Grimm, Sleepy Hollow and Supernatural is fine with me. I honestly did not care for The Witches on East End, Dracula bored me, and I had no interest in Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Ravenswood, Teen Wolf, The originals, The Vampire Diaries or Lost Girl and Being Human.

  2. Sleepy Hollow is the only one of these that I watch, but I LOVE it!!! I am bummed that it is a short season, but glad it will be back next year

  3. I love pretty much everything about Sleepy Hollow (except Katrina). I am fairly sure Capt. Irving is a good guy for 2 reasons. I doubt they would honor the author by making his namesake character a bad guy 7 2. Just too supportive of Abby & Ichabod to be bad. I have seen it tossed around that he may be an archangel. Also, if you follow Orlando Jones on Twitter I promise you will enjoy it. He may just be the biggest fan of the show & it is hilarious.

Finally- I LOVE the 13 episode season. IT forces the writers to give us tight, action packed episodes where everything matters. This is a case of quality over quantity- I am all for cable style programming.

My votes are for Sleepy Hollow, Haven, & The Originals(so much better than the mothership right now!). I’d throw in Dracula too, simply because it is only 10 episodes.

  4. Haven!!!!!!!

    That is all. :)

  5. I’m really looking forward to the US debut of THE ALMIGHTY JOHNSONS on SyFy next year. Other than LOST GIRL, I haven’t really followed anything…

  6. Witches of East End, Haven, Grimm and the usual suspects. Wish I could stay later tonight, but I have to leave and go animal sit.

  7. Good, more Haven fans. It’s my favorite show and I feel like I’m the only person I know who has ever even heard of it.

  8. I really need to start watching Supernatural again, I really miss the boys:)

    • It has been a great season so far. Loved episodes of Oz and Dog Days…a lot more humor which is a nice reliever.

  9. I vote for Supernatural, Sleepy Hollow, and Being Human.

  10. Supernatural and Grimm. I loved the Slumber Party episode on Supernatural! I wish Charlie was more of a regular and that Bobby will make more appearances. I am feeling sad, as I am afraid this will be Supernatural’s last season. I didn’t care for Dracula at ALL and think it is only holding on to Grimm’s coat tails. I enjoyed the couple of Sleepy episodes I have seen. I am very interested to see how Being Human turns out, as the trailers look very good.

  11. How about The Walking Dead? ;0D
