Book Bites: Black Blade Blues by J. A. Pitts

Black Blade Blues by J. A. PittsWelcome to our bi-monthly feature with Jay Scott of Great Scott Audio Productions. Jay will be reading from Black Blade Blues by J. A. Pitts. This is book one of the Sarah Beauhall series.

Also, as a special bonus this week Jay is giving away three FREE audible codes to the first three people to respond on this post. The codes are for Mark Henry’s Seafoam audio book. These are good only in the US on audible.com.

About Black Blade Blues:

“Sarah Beauhall has more on her plate than most twenty-somethings: day job as a blacksmith, night job as a props manager for low-budget movies, and her free time is spent fighting in a medieval re-enactment group.

The lead actor breaks Sarah’s favorite one-of-a-kind sword, and to avoid reshooting scenes, Sarah agrees to repair the blade. One of the extras, who claims to be a dwarf, offers to help. And that’s when things start to get weird. Could the sword really be magic, as the “dwarf” claims? Are dragons really living among us as shapeshifters?

And as if things weren’t surreal enough, Sarah’s girlfriend Katie breaks out the dreaded phrase… “I love you.” As her life begins to fall apart, first her relationship with Katie, then her job at the movie studio, and finally her blacksmithing career, Sarah hits rock bottom. It is at this moment, when she has lost everything she has prized, that one of the dragons makes their move.

And suddenly what was unthinkable becomes all too real…and Sarah will have to decide if she can reject what is safe and become the heroine who is needed to save her world.”

  1. That was so fun! I sat and listened and could really get a sense of what the scene look like! I love that you like snark! It’s my sense of humor too.
I am going to check the book out - I hope it’s available on Kindle.
    Thanks, Paula

  2. Thanks for the reading! I had to listen carefully because I’m not used to audiobooks or readings like this and english is not my first language. I’m gonna give it a try to this series, it looks really appealing.

And every time I see the pic with the knife I can’t stop laughing, lol!

    Cheers!

  3. Love the shirt shout-out to Powell’s (sigh, vow to visit in person someday). Jay’s voice is the perfect match for the tone…I need to check this out!

    • Hey Cyndi,

Do you have a US audible.com account? If so you get one of the codes Jay is giving away this week. But you have to have a US account. Email me at: [email protected] if you do. Paula doesn’t have one so, I have a code for you.

  5. Enjoyed this! I’ve never listened before.

  6. Well (sigh..) another one to my TBR

  7. Darn, I hate when I miss something cool.
    Love the t-shirt, btw.
I loved how you did the voice characterization saying actors are stupid… the personality was SO clear. I like how you can differentiate the characters with so little effort.

  8. A blacksmith heroine is certainly different to me and the opening scene being read was fun with the broken prop etc.

  9. Loved the reading and I think Black Blade Blues sounds like a fantastic story.

  10. Awesome reading!,
