Authors Speak Out - Charlotte Blackwell

First off I would like to thank Bitten by Books for having me today.

Everyone has a dream in life, some want to be a doctor while others want to be a famous rock star. I never really knew what I wanted to be. I spent over thirty years going through the motions of life. I got married had a baby, got divorced, waitressed, met the man of my dreams, went back to school, had a another baby, finished school, worked as a nurse, got married, had another baby and became a stay at home mother. I asked myself, what’s next? What am I to do now? I have the most important job in the world, raise children. Now what if I fail at that too? My husband and my three children are the world to me and I want nothing more than for my family to be happy and follow their dreams. How do you teach a child to follow their dreams when you don’t even have any of your own? Well a few short years ago I finally found my dream, to write. I now have something to inspire my children as much as they inspire me.

In November of 2009 my oldest daughter handed me a book and said mom you have to read this. I wasn’t an avid reader but reluctantly took the book. I then read the entire series of 4 books in as many days. I wasn’t able to stop reading and thought to myself I can do this. I always enjoyed writing, but it was more of what I was feeling. Could I write an entire novel? Well I have answered that and it’s YES. Matter of fact I have write several in just over three years and even got a publishing deal. The first three books in my Embrace (YA paranormal romance) Series have already been released. I accomplished so much when this happen. I wrote some books, I got published, I taught my children that anything can happen if you work hard and believe in yourself and most of all I now have a dream.

Immortal Embrace released on July 1, 2011, with Forbidden Embrace and Mystic Embrace releasing two and four months after and a fourth book almost ready. Who could ask for more? Well it’s human nature, we always want more. So my next dream was to become a bestselling author. Now here is where the magic of dreams comes in to play.

I’m a huge believe in the power of positive thinking and the laws of attraction. I could write pages on pages of personal experience to prove this theory. One example is my husband. He was laid off from his job and was having a hard time finding another, due to cut backs and such. He hadn’t worked in months. I told him to make a list of things he wants, bet to do it as if he already has it. The last item on his list was I have a great job to support my family. Within five minutes of putting the pen down, the phone rang. My husband was offer a job at a higher rate of pay than his previous one. Now I also made a list of my own. One of the things on my list was to be a bestselling author by January of 2012. This came dream came true for on January 14 and 15, 2012 Immortal Embrace made it to #4 on the Amazon Kindle best seller list.

So now what? Well I just make more dreams and continue to believe in myself and those around me, know that they can always come true. So what I say to all of you is dreams are important, have them, embrace them and believe in them and yourself because anything is possible. If you can’t believe in yourself, who else can? Reach for the stars and don’t stop there, keep reaching further and your life will be full of everything you ever dreamed of. ~ Charlotte

      Hi Caetlyn,
There are lots of stories with similar story lines out right now, I hope that mine is different in the fact that I include some very big messages and lessons through out the story. I also hope that teens can find comfort with the similarity’s they may have with the characters.
I hope you get a chance to check out the Embrace series and don’t forget to enter the giveaway on my blog.

  3. I’m also a huge believer in the laws of attraction. When I was in undergrad, I had a professor who had us write a 5 year plan. I think I ended up with more than a few things on that plan. I got laid off two years ago. I think I’ll give your list a try.
    Thanks for a great post!

      Hi Roni,
Believing in something really does work. I see it every day. I also can feel the shift when things are going bad, the negativity can take over and we all need to find the positive aspects to make life more enjoyable. Try imagining everything you want out of life every night when you go to bed. See yourself in the hot red sports car, with the best job in the world and so on. I promise you will wake up happier if nothing else. My daughter sometimes gets mad that I am too positive, but trust me it feels way better than complaining all the time (i used to do that a lot!.
Good luck with your list, I hope all your dreams come true and don’t forget to enter the giveaway on my blog.

  5. Sounds like a good series. Thanks for introducing it to us that have not heard of it before. I agree with you that positive thinking can really make a difference. And while I am not always successful I try to do it and encourage others even if it means just putting a positive spin on what they might be having issues with.

Thanks Donna, I hope you enjoy the series. I do agree that positive thinking can be difficult at times, but it sure feels good when you can emerge yourself in it.

  8. What a wonderfully inspiring post. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to share with us.
    1. What is your biggest dream? I want to write a good book, emphasis on good LOL

    2. What is the best way to support those you care about follow their dreams? I feel to just love them and be there if they want you too and even when they don’t, as well as offer positive encouragement when they are open to discussion. Sometimes the best support is to just be there ready with a hand when they reach out.

    3. What is something you want to do in life, but never thought you could? Would you consider trying it knowing that others are successful at trying new things? I really do want to write a book and start and stop and life gets in the way. Yes if I want to bad enough I will shake off the insecurities and go for it.

  9. Charlotte,

    Thanks for your well-wishes!

I totally forgot about heading over to your site for the contest! Must correct that now!

  10. What is the best way to support those you care about follow their dreams?

In the instance of my kids, make sure they have a great education, so they can make informed decisions and just in general, be available when they need advice, only giving said advice when asked for.

  11. congrats on your new release! It’s always fun to find out the “inspiration” behind new authors taking the plunge and following their dreams :)

  12. My biggest dream in life is to be healthy and pain free. I am also going back to school for an education degree. Despite the laughing family members.

  13. Charlotte, you say you weren’t an avid reader but what do you read when the inclination hits you?

  14. Heather Alexander

My dream would be to get paid for reading books. I think emotional support is the best kind you can offer anyone wether they are following a dream or having a crisis. for answer #3, please refer to answer #1. LOL

  15. 1. What is your biggest dream? For myself, would be to have people to want to buy my books and love them. I’m passionate about writing and have been since I was a young girl and I was always afraid to let too many people read my stories. At 35 I took a gamble and wrote my first novel. This past April, I debuted my first E-Book.

    2. What is the best way to support those you care about follow their dreams? Right now I’m heading back to college to get a degree so that financially I care about but I always tell my children, my niece and nephew, and others to never give up on something-no matter what it is.

    3. What is something you want to do in life, but never thought you could? Would you consider trying it knowing that others are successful at trying new things? Besides traveling around the world, writing a book that could be picked up by a major publisher is something I want to do. Yes I would still consider it because we only get one life and might as well spend this finite time we’re given doing something that is in your heart, mind, and soul to do.
