About In His Wildest Dreams:

“Every dream can come true…in unexpected ways.

The only time Glenn Brody acted on the waking dreams his mother called second sight, he landed in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Now he keeps himself grounded in the real world, turning a neglected Scottish mansion into a co-op that gives ex-cons a second chance.

He’s almost managed to ignore the persistent, erotically charged dreams featuring a beautiful, passionate woman—until that woman accosts him in the street to ask for a job.

In hiding from her violent ex, Izzy Ross has made a peaceful life for herself and her young son in the isolated Highland village of Ardknocken. Handsome men with a criminal record aren’t high on her list, but when work dries up, she’s forced to ask Glenn for a menial cleaning job at the big, dusty house.

Their mutual attraction turns all their preconceived notions upside down, and stirs the mansion’s legendary ghost. Attracting the kind of media attention that could force Glenn to make a perilous choice to save the woman he’s grown to love.”

Warning: Contains a mansion full of unlikely heroes, liberal and colorful use of Scottish slang, a medieval ghost, and enough hot sex to spice up the chilliest Highland night.

  1. Yes, I enjoy ghost stories.

  2. I love creepy stories, even if I have trouble sleeping afterwards. :P Have you ever experienced something that could not be rationally explained? Something strange and scary? thanks for the chance.

    • Well, I did once have a horrible dream about dead bodies and blood and carnage in an underground station, and then a couple of weeks later, the Lodon terrorist bombings happened on the Underground. That was nasty :(

  3. hi MArie, yes I love ghost stories and paranormal.

what ghost story scares you the most?

  4. Congrats on the release of your new book! You’re a new author to me but the book sounds good and the cover is great.
I don’t remember reading ghost stories now that I think about it. It’s not that I don’t like them but I never came across a good first-reading ghost book, I guess.
How did you come up with this story?

    • Hi Serena, nice to meet you :). Glad you like the sound of the book, and I agree the cover is gorgeous - Angela Waters is the artist. Not quite sure how the story came to me! I remember feeling an urge to write a sort of Gothic tale, featuring a spooky old house and a dangerous, troubled hero. Then Glenn sort of formed in my mind, and the story grew from him, I suppose!

  5. Yes, I love ghost stories!

  6. Amber McCallister

Yes, I enjoy ghost stories when they are written with lots of heart and soul. They have so much potential to be incredible. :)

  7. I enjoy ghost stories.

  8. Do you have a guilty pleasure book, show, or movie?

    • Actually, I think I asked you that during your last giveaway on Bitten By Books. How ’bout a stand-alone novel you would like to see a sequel to?

      • Hi Fox! Hmm…you’ve got me thinking! Maybe DRACULA - I know there are some later ones, not written by Bram Stoker obviously, but they never quite hit the spot for me :).

        Marie

  9. I love ghost stories! Who is your favorite author of ghost stories?

    • Goodness, that’s a hard one, Bonnie! I loved Peter Straub’s GHOST STORY when I read it YEARS ago! And an older book called STILL SHE WISHED FOR COMPANY by Margaret Irwin. And Ciar Cullen’s KEY WEST MAGIC still stays with me. Lots more too! I love atmospheric rather than terrifying ghost stories as a rule :)

  10. We absolutely loved the thrill of making up ghost stories as a kid. Why is it we get a kick out of scaring ourselves? I haven’t until recently heard a good one be told and it was in a big haunted country house. Safe to say I genuinely had to use the hallway lights this time to make my way to bed!

Have you had any personal experiences with ghosts?

    • So true, Ted! I did the same, and so do my kids!

I don’t really have any personal experience with ghosts, although when my sons were babies, and I used to change their nappies in the middle of the night, they used to look around them and fix their eyes on things I couldn’t see. Gave me the shivers sometimes :)

  11. Oh, I love ghost stories. It’s a shame that so many “scary” movies these days are nothing but hack and slash. I much prefer a good ghost story. Did you ever see the original “The Haunting” (based on he book “The Haunting of Hill House” by Shirley Jackson). The sequel was nothing like the book - or the original movie. I love the suspense of a good haunting. I’m not sure if you are interesting in anime, but there’s a great series called “Ghost Hunt” that I would recommend.

    • Thanks for those, Linda! I dont; think I did see The Haunting, although it sounds familiar, so I’m going to look for it :). Like you, I much prefer the atmospheric to the slasher :) .

      Marie

  12. I am a big chicken and don’t like to be scared . Give me a Ghostbuster or Twilight.

  13. Where does your inspiration come from?

  14. I like creepy stories that have ghost in them

  15. I do like ghost stories if they’re not too disturbing!

  16. I love ghost stories.

  17. Depends on the type of ghost story. I don’t like really scary ones.

  18. I like ghost stories. Do you have a favourite genre to read?

  19. Is there anything you would never write about in your books, whether an uncomfortable subject or just something you’re not interested in?

    • I used to avoid uncomfortable things, like miscarriage, cancer, abuse - mainly because I’d hate to trivialize such issues and some of them strike too close to home. But sometimes characters come to me with uncomfortable pasts or presents, and I’ve found I just have to write them as they are.

I don;t think I could write about things that don;t interest me, like sport - but there are so mnay other things that do that I don;t feel it’s a problem :)

      Marie

  20. Love the interview Marie!

  21. I love stories with ghosts that are not written purely with the goal of scaring me. I’m not a fan of super-scary horror.

  22. I LOVE ghost stories, especially if they are true! What is your favorite “true” ghost story?

    • Well that’s the intriguing thin about ghost stories for me. You’re never quite sure what’s true and what isn’t. Imagination, emotion, mischief can all play a part… but so much of what we experience is unexplained that even the most fixed cynic must have SOME doubts… :)

      Marie

  23. Patty McKenn Van Hulle

I love a good ghost story! I love intrigue, mysteries & strange happenings in romances & it shakes up the storyline & takes characters into different situations!

  24. I like some stories with ghosts in them, but sometimes ghost stories can be too scary for lame me!

  25. I like them but sometimes they scare me! I like to read them only when someone else in home. LOL

  26. Yes, I often enjoy a good ghost story..

  27. I love Ghost story’s ! have lived in a few Hunted House.and so much would love to be a Ghost hunter like the Tap team.

  28. I love ghost stories.

What is the best piece of advice you have received?

  29. Not really. I’m not into scary stories, and otherwise I prefer characters who are alive or at least corporeal.

    • That’s fair. I know from experience it’s hard to write a romance with a ghostly hero/heroine and still find a Happy Ever After! In IN HIS WILDEST DREAMS, the ghost is not the main character, though she is important…

      Marie

  30. What was the most surprising bit of info you have ever come across when doing any research?

  31. I don’t much care for the really scary ones, they freak me out. What inspires you to write?

    • I think I answered that one above - Crystal’s question. The answer is everything and anything I see or hear! I have to be writing something all the time

      Marie

  32. I do enjoy some ghost stories. I don’t like horror, so if the stories are done like that, I’m out. I love finding out about the ghosts past or to see how ghosts interact with the living. I was a huge fan of the Ghost Whisperer when it was on TV

  33. I do enjoy ghost stories. Just wondering is there a genre you don’t read and who are some of your favorite authors.

    • I’ll read any genre if the characters grab me. Favourite authors - OODLES! Bram Stoker, Anne Rice, Dorothy Dunnett, Georgette Heyer, Meljean Brooks, Jennifer Ashley, Jennifer Estep, Kate Rothwell…etc :)

      Marie

  34. Yes, I do like ghost stories, and funny thing I haven’t read that many.

  35. Do you enjoy ghost stories? - Yes.

Imagine you are invited as an author to celebrity stock a library. Choose a handful of go to fav books that you think my library has GOT to have; from picture books on up…

    • Yikes, I’m an ex-librarian! I feel I should do my research and submit my case :)

      The Hungry Caterpillar
      Little Women
The lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
      Harry Potter (all of them!)

      Marie

  36. Yes, I enjoy ghost stories, mostly watching them on T.V., such as A Haunting, My Haunted House, and When Ghosts Attack. I collect books of true ghost stories and I have some fictional ones, too, including a book of Victorian ghost stories.

  37. demetra Iliopoulos
