There’s an apartment in Marc Beckett’s building where the ghosts of the San Francisco Ripper are stuck in eternal torment, and they cry out for vengeance. Halfway across the country, Brennan Cooper has decided that he needs to move away to finish his senior year of high school. His life has taken a downward turn and he feels he needs a fresh start and cannot wait till college.
Brennan’s mother had him at a young age and they are very close. She loves him, but agrees he can move to San Francisco with his Uncle Marc. His plan is to reinvent himself and make some friends. He ends up with some great friends and the school hottie. The only thing troubling him now is the crazy dreams he’s having of murdered girls and the pull he feels coming from the downstairs apartment.
Brennan should never have given in to that pull and entered that damned room. He should never have asked his girlfriend for help, because once seen, the dead cannot be unseen. The ghosts are out for blood and Bren’s is just fine. He unwittingly gives them access to not only his girlfriend but also his friends. All of their lives are at risk. Unfortunately, Uncle Marc thinks he knows how to stop it.
Blood Vengeance is a great horror story, filled with lots of secrets. Everyone seems to have secrets, and the reader is wondering how it all ties in, but Michael Schutz-Ryan does a wonderful job putting everything in its place. The blood and gore is not in your face, but when it is there, it is terrifying. Brennan is a smart kid, and his friends stand by him. The story flows well and the characters are fleshed-out and interact well together.
