Journey of the Princess of Ice is about a lonely ice elemental, the last of her kind, named Ice. She travels the world in search of home, something which she has not known since her people and her lands were destroyed by fires sent by demons. When she comes to a certain land, she finds a tavern with a friendly owner, and they strike a deal for her to get free room and board just by keeping the tavern cool, just by being around. Ice is very lonely, and the closest she can come to people is to hang out in the tavern, where she dances on the floor, always alone. Her cold will harm anyone who gets too close to her.One day, a man enters the tavern. But he is not just a man, he is a prince of the hells. In fact, he is running away from his father, a High Demon, who wants him to ascend the throne of the hells and rule as part of a unholy trinity with the devil. That’s not what Arch wants for his life, so he has been on the run for a long time with his servant, Carron, and his bodyguard, Harper. He sees the beautiful ice elemental dancing and wants to get to know her. They share a dance, which is a surprise in itself, since usually their powers would harm each other or cancel each other out. Ice is all that her name implies, and Arch holds the fires of hells within him. That dance is not enough, for Ice and Arch find a love together that makes them dare to fight against Arch’s destiny, and anything else that would stand in their way. Journey of the Princess of Ice is a paranormal romance with a distinctive feel. Instead of vampires, werewolves, and the usual fare, the subject is an ice elemental and a demon, and it has a bit of a high fantasy feel. Ms. Thompson describes Ice’s and Arch’s powers in a very visually striking manner. This book also has illustrations of the characters that add to the visual appeal of the narrative.
Ice is both independent and strong but also vulnerable in her loneliness and her need for connection. Arch is also a complex character as he wars against the inherent evil of his nature as the son of an Arch Demon, which grows with each Hells Spawn he kills. He wants something better for himself, to be free and to find a true home. When Ice and Arch come together, it feels right and powerful. While outwardly opposites, there is a true unity and connection between them that feels destined. The chemistry between them is electric and drives the story. Thompson takes the time to build their relationship so that when they consummate their feelings, there is no doubt of the emotional bond between Ice and Arch.
Journey of the Princess of Ice is a dynamic, descriptive novel that drew me into the story of its characters. Ice and Arch are multifaceted characters, and their journey to a place of safety and connection captivated me. I would recommend this to paranormal romance fans looking for something that is off the beaten track. Ms. Thompson delivers a solid read with this novel.Book Stats:
