That Wicked Apple begins right where book one leaves off and throws the reader right into the thick of the story. Snow is ravaging the countryside with her horde of zombie “horrors.” The dwarf, Grouchy, and his human companions are struggling to understand what is going on and finding a way to stop it. After picking up some new survivors, Grouchy finds out one of his group is actually Queen Adara, who disguised herself as an old crone and gave his beloved Snow that cursed apple.
Unfortunately, Grouchy cannot kill Adara yet, since she might hold the answer to stopping Snow. The original apple got washed downstream and is now a tree. Adara thinks burning the cursed tree might bring an end to the plague. All the group has to do is fight through the town full of zombies, evade Snow and that damned Prince who really will no stay dead for some reason, and find the evil thing.
As Adara is fond of saying, Magic is a naughty beast, and the group comes to realize that this horde of zombies is not mindless. Snow is controlling them, and the plague itself is changing. No more hours before turning-it happens way too quickly now. Time is running out for all of them.
That Wicked Apple is a great second addition to this series. The action is fast-paced and has more great character developments. Rob E. Boley tells a good tale full of suspense and some snarky wit. The chapters are told from varying characters, fleshing them out for us to understand a little better. This one is a totally unique zombie tale that will leave you wanting more.
