Nicole Denison has already seen entirely too much in her short seven years. Five months ago, she witnessed her father’s murder and ever since, she and her mother Sarah have been in hiding awaiting the capture of the murderer. Guarded by two police officers, Louis and Jimmy, they can only wait and pray for an end to their nightmare. Sarah prays for it all to end but also, and more importantly, for Nicole. Nicole hasn’t spoken or even smiled since the murder.
It’s because of these prayers that Nicole has an additional guardian assigned to her that, until now, they have been unaware of. David is a Guardian Angel who is very dedicated to his work. While he’s long dreamed of being human, it wasn’t until he was assigned to Nicole that these feelings became much stronger. He finds himself experiencing feelings, strong and real feelings, for Sarah. David vows to not give the Lord a reason to discipline him for breaking the rules and fully intends to honor that vow. That is, until Nicole is somehow able to see and talk to him. Sarah, who had been feeling a loving and protective presence for months, soon is aware of him also.
Not long after, David wakes them and tells them to leave the cabin in which they are staying. The men that are after Nicole have found them. In the process of escape, Jimmy is killed and Louis is wounded and separated from Sarah and Nicole. To keep them safe, David takes human form and leads them to a temporary hiding spot. Louis eventually catches up to them, and together he and David do what they can to evade the ones searching for them and find a safe place for Sarah and Nicole.
Along the way they are helped by Billie Rayburn, the director for a women and children’s shelter. No more than David and Sarah can deny their feelings for each other, neither can Billie and Louis. However, David and Sarah face an uncertain future as human and Angel. As things develop between the two couples, the danger increases until they must face the murderers head on. Only God knows what the future holds for them all.
This is definitely a Christian book and while that’s not my usual genre, I enjoyed it. The characters are well established and very easy to like. The story itself is gripping and I found myself almost on the edge of my chair with tension wondering if the good guys would win in the end. If you’re not particularly religious, give this book a try anyway. It’s a good thriller.
