River Weston had designed the best video game of her career, called Hollow Man. It allowed users to project an image of themselves into a dangerous situation, making it seem as though they are present. Her technology was amazing, and with the breakdown of social guidelines and the world in chaos, it seemed that maybe River’s game could be useful on many levels. River’s Fae magic was the secret addition, the added touch that helped make her program so successful, but the program revealed a small glitch, producing a buzzing sound that foretold the demise of the user.

The Cursed, the entertaining first installment in The League of the Black Swan series, opens with wizard Luke Oliver receiving an unwelcome visit from Maestro, an envoy from the League with an assignment for Luke-one he definitely does not wish to undertake. In Bordertown, the area of Manhattan populated by the supernatural as well as humans, bike messenger Rio Jones, a young woman with the ability to read minds, witnesses the kidnapping of a young girl. After calling the police, Rio goes back to her apartment, determined to leave and seek out the assistance of Luke Oliver in tracking down the girl, based upon the dangerous thoughts she picked up from the kidnapper.

Disabled druid, Connor, always seems to make more enemies than friends, including the Murdocks-with the exception of Leo Murdock, Connor’s steadfast friend in the Boston Police Department Homicide division. The wonderful
Fire Kin, the fourth and final installment in the Half-Light City series, grabs the reader from the first page and keeps them enmeshed in the story until the very end. Asharic, Fae warrior exiled thirty years earlier for having killed another in a duel, now a mercenary, receives an offer from the Templars of the City to help defend them in an uneasy peace with the Blood (vampires) and the Beast Kind (werewolves), that since the death of the Fae queen may descend into war at any time. Asharic agrees, realizing that the queen’s death also means the end of his exile, along with the added bonus of giving him the chance to possibly see once more a woman he thought lost to him forever.
