Rise Again by Ben Tripp

Rise Again by Ben TrippSheriff Danielle “Danny” Adelman of Forest Peak, California, wakes up on the fourth of July already dreading the day. There is a community festival where she will receive the key to the mountains, she gets to judge a chili contest, she has overslept, and oh, yeah, her kid sister that she is responsible for has run away and used Danny’s vintage mustang to do it in.

Danny does not like the attention. She is an Iraq war verteran suffering with PTSD and needs alcohol and pills just to sleep at night. Her job is all she has, other than her sister Kelley, who feels that Danny might have physically come home from the war, but is not there for her in any other way.

Danny’s day goes from bad to worse when people start running and screaming and then fall down dead. It goes from worse to WTF when the dead people rise again, and decide they are now hungry. Danny tries to gather the crowd and form a get away plan, keeping as many alive as she can.

People try to stick with any form of security when involved with fleeing for their lives. Danny feels responsible for getting them to safety, but her main concern is finding Kelley. She basically dumps the survivors at an old air force base since it is basically secure, then takes off looking for Kelley. She comes to realize that she cannot replace one with the other and heads back to the survivors. It is then that Danny finds out that the walking dead are not the only thing to fear in this new landscape-other people who think they are entitled to what you have are the biggest threat.

Ben Tripp writes an excellent zombie tale. He fleshes out his characters giving them real life issues and then throws zombies in their path. I love seeing how different authors think an apocalypse will change society and to what degree. Tripp has a flawed heroine in Danny, but she is strong. His fight scenes are well-written and brutal. I did not want to put the book down. Rise Again Below Zero, book two is out now. I will read any zombie book Ben Tripp writes.

About Jkrowyn

My name is Joani and I’m in my 40's. I have a job that lets me listen to audiobooks all day long. On my breaks I turn off the iPod and get out my kindle or paperback, then turn the MP3 player back on when I have to go back to work. I can’t believe I get paid for that!! I started reading a lot in high school, just regular stuff and found I really liked science fiction. But after a while I got lost in all that tech and found the fabulous world of fantasy and paranormal. I don’t think I could ever give it up now. I am blessed to have 4 of the best dogs on the planet. Well, actually they’re not dogs, they’re pugs which make them so much more than dogs. I also have a border collie and 8 cats. All of my animals are rescues and they are all older dogs. I’ve been with my husband for 25 years and we have 1 son. Thankfully they both love to read too. I’ve tried my hand at writing but with so many good books to read I’ve put that on the backburner. I plan to spend my retirement reading. I’m so looking forward to that!
