Jewell McKean was horrified at the screams of the injured man echoing through the hospital emergency room. Being a nurse, she was expected to perform her duties with great precision, but this victim of a drunk-driving accident brought back all the sadness and trauma of her mother’s death several years earlier.
Jewell was inexplicably drawn to the young man, feeling a strange sort of connection to him, and when he was pronounced dead, she watched quietly as the health care personnel left the room, then carefully pulled the sheet back to see his face. As she sat with the young man, trying to become accustomed to his sudden death, she heard a faint beep from the monitors, and realized that, somehow, the young man had come back to life.
Edgar Durand was eagerly listening during the press conference called by the hospital to explain the young man’s startling return to life. Though the doctor spoke as if this was a common occurrence, Edgar suspected that the young man was involved with the Templar Knights, who were rumored to have stolen the Holy Grail and used it to become immortal. He was a loyal member of the Obsidian Knights, sworn to hunt down those immortals and kill them for their crimes against humanity.
My attention was captured in the first few pages; with a man pronounced dead coming back to life, I had to know how and why. Jewell’s attraction to Collin was an integral part of the story, causing all sorts of difficulties within Collin’s family setting. Even after Collin learned the secret of who and what he was, his loyalty to Jewell and his determination to protect her was admirable. Love Immortal was an exciting and fast-paced story that I found fascinating, and I am eagerly awaiting a sequel.
