Erotica

Tempting Sin by AJ Hampton

Steaming hot! Tempting Sin is definitely an 18+ read and contains M/F/M action, if that bothers you. If not, read on!

When I read books for review, typically I don’t read any of the excerpts or information about the book beforehand, although I do have a very general idea of what it is about. I like to go in with a fresh mind and outlook. Well, I had NO idea that this book by AJ Hampton was a sexscapade of epic proportions. :)

It is a very well written, short erotic paranormal about two vampires, a were tiger and a struggle for ownership of one woman. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Lucinda, Darkly by Sunny

Lucinda, Darkly is the beginning of a great new series by best selling author Sunny that tells about Lucinda, who is one of the secondary characters from the Monére, Children of the Moon series.

Lucinda is the daughter of the High Lord of Hell and rules over a small territory. She is also somewhat of a bounty hunter of wayward demons. Lucinda has spent literally centuries alone and is getting bored with her existence, and has even convinced herself that she likes it that way on some levels. That is, until she runs into an outcast Monére warrior or two, and a mix-blood boy. She soon finds herself back in the thick of things with people to care for, and her biggest challenge seems to be letting them care for her and be with her. The book delves into the underworld and the challenges she faces.

This is an action-packed adventure with some really great sex scenes. I really dig Lucinda, who is a hard, but fair woman with a strong sense of what is right and wrong. There are plenty of ways this series could grow, and I am really looking forward to the next installment in this series, Lucinda, Dangerously , which is scheduled for release sometime in 2009.

Mona Lisa Craving by Sunny

Mona Lisa Craving is the 5th book in the ongoing Monére, Children of the Moon series by national best selling author Sunny. It tells the story of Mona Lisa, who is the re-incarnate of Mona Lyra, and the eternally cursed Dante, who wants her to kill him and end his suffering.

In this storyline, Mona Lisa gets a much needed healer for her group, but it could be at a great price for everybody involved. The book also delves more into her desire for a child and her engagement to Lord Halcyon, the Demon Prince of Hell.

The greatest urge for the Monére is to create life, and it is not an easy thing for their queens to do. Will Mona Lisa finally get her wish? Will she make the crucial decision to end Dante’s life? All these questions and more are revealed in this installment.

The book has a lot of sex scenes that are well written and intriguing. The series is based on a shape shifting humanoid race that came to earth over 4,000 years ago, and is definitely erotic fantasy at its best. I am anxiously awaiting the next book, Mona Lisa Darkening, which is scheduled for release in January 2009.

Midnight Reborn by Diane McEntire

In the book Midnight Reborn, Robyn Andrews is a young girl with a single mom watching out for her. Her life is a struggle on some levels, but that is nothing compared to what happens when her mom hooks up with Jake Carter. Then both of their lives take a turn for the worse. The two women are transported into a living hell of extreme physical and emotion abuse.

Ms. McEntire’s portrayal of these particular scenes is gut wrenching. It was written so well that I actually had to put the book down and have a moment of tears for what the story of these two women represents. It is important that the reader make it through this piece because it really lays the foundation for what Robyn goes through and the young woman she becomes.

Just when Robyn thinks there is no hope, she gets a break and makes her escape from Texas to Kentucky. She may have escaped one danger, but lands in the lap of something potentially more deadly. She takes up with a group of Watchers who are actually vampires sworn to protect civilian vampires and humans from rogue vampires.

It is an excellent story about despair, newfound hope, personal discovery, and love, filled with a good amount of action. Even though parts of this story were difficult for me to read, I am glad that I did, and am truly looking forward to the next book in the Watchers series.

      The Woodsman by Belle Scarlett

A definitely grown up take on Little Red Riding Hood, The Woodsman by Belle Scarlett is recommended for readers 18+. Lady Lily Rouge is on her way through the Enchanted Forest to meet her sight unseen fiancé on the other side when her carriage is overtaken by a bold black wolf with vivid blue eyes. Said wolf leads (or corrals) her to a small cottage off the beaten track and proceeds to trap her inside.

Big Bad Wolf Marrok Ulfang has been waiting for this red cloaked maiden since he was bespelled during King Arthur’s campaign for the Holy Grail over thousand years before and has dreamed of her ever since. At first convinced by his inner wolf to get the pesky curse out of the way and then get down to enjoying Lily, he instead decides to take the noble martyrdom route and to sacrifice himself to allow Lily to have everything he couldn’t give her. He does this without asking Lily if she wants him to do so. She is, of course, furious and is quite determined to use her newly discovered feminine wiles to turn him from his chosen path.

The Woodsman is set in an interesting world with well thought out and researched links between fairytale, myth, and story. I enjoyed reading this and thought it a fun short read (85 pages in length). My one regret about this story is I would have loved to read it as a full length novel instead of a short novella.

In the Dark by Rob Graham

Rob Graham’s book In the Dark was a series of 4 short stories, all wrapped together through the same character. Georges Belleveau is a vampire who has lived for many years. He glides through life trying to hide what he is, yet trying to live a normal life. The first story “Black” had a little more graphic violence than what I am used to reading in erotic vampire novels. I was a little confused as to how it fits with the other three stories, I guess it introduces the reader to what kind of life Georges leads as a vampire.

The second book, “Abyss”, showed a bit of the more humane side of Georges. It introduces us to the woman he cares about, Diane, who figures prominently throughout the rest of the book. The second short story caught my attention much more than the first. While it was still a little bit more graphic than I prefer in my erotica, the story was interesting and included elements of the supernatural in it. The third and fourth stories were about Diane and Georges relationship.

This book didn’t really catch my attention like I thought it would. The first story may have been what turned me off of it. I’m still not quite sure of how it fit with the rest of the book. I compliment the author on the erotic scenes being well written and very descriptive, allowing for some imaginative visual. There are some elements of D/s and F/F in this book, if that turns you off. This book wasn’t quite for me, but I encourage others to read it and see if it is for you.

      Changing Times by Marilu Mann

Admittedly, this is the absolute first e-book that I have ever purchased and read. I wasn’t sure how I would make it through the book. Surprisingly, using my laptop and reading it sized at 130% went pretty fast. I am SO glad it was Changing Times by Marilu Mann that broke my e-book virginity!!

The story is set in New Orleans, which is one of my favorite cities. It is a shapeshifter tale with a storyline of love, lust, power and ultimate control. Dr. Carly Chambers gets the shock of her life when she is kidnapped to perform surgery on an unusual patient. You see, Tony Pantera claims to be a shapeshifter. Although, her clinical mind takes awhile to finally wrap itself around this information. She finally comes to accept that Tony and the other shifters aren’t delusional based on the things she sees with her own eyes.

While her eyes are opening to these new experiences, she begins to fall in love with the ever-so-sexy Tony. Not surprisingly, Tony is falling hard for Carly as well, but is terrified that he can’t keep her safe from other shifters out to cause him harm. Unfortunately neither of them will get a say in the events that lead them through this tale. The wheels of a bigger plot have already been set in motion, and poor Carly may end up being a victim of unfortunate circumstances.

It is a wonderfully written book. The storyline is solid and entertaining, and it kept me paging through my laptop each night in anticipation of what would come next. The sex scenes are smoking hot and very well written - so well in fact that I am eagerly anticipating the next book in the series! :) It looks like I have another favorite author in Marilu Mann. Get this book today… you will be so glad you did.

The Vampire Queen’s Servant by Joey W. Hill

This book is extremely explicit and pretty much centers around sex, BD/SM and control. I do not recommend it for anybody under 18. That being said, it was really well written.

Lady Lyssa, a thousand year old vampire queen has a rare blood disease and feels she will die soon. But she is without a human servant and has been for some time. A true human servant binds themselves in complete servitude in all things. The binding occurs in a series of three marks. Each mark gives the vampire more control. Once the third mark has been given, the human servant will be completely bound and will die when the vampire they serve dies. Naturally she is hesitant to bind somebody and commit them to death so soon after their commitment to her.

Human servants are critical for vampires to do a multitude of things. They protect their master/mistress during the daylight hours, help groom them, and provide blood and sex amongst other things. Ms. Hills brand of vampires have a few of the typical traits of the classic Hollywood type. They can’t go out in the sunlight, have no reflection, can be killed by the stake or decapitation. Interestingly enough that is where the similarities end. Lets just say if old Bram knew the depth of servitude these particular human servants provide, he’d be turning in his grave. LOL

Like a ghost from the past, Jacob the sexy Irish vampire slayer turns up on her doorstep - a gift of sorts from her last human servant. While he struggles to earn his place by her side, Lady Lyssa struggles with the even more complex issues of falling in love, struggling to maintain power and control in her region, and staying alive. I am truly excited to read the next installment in this series The Mark of the Vampire Queen that was released in February 2008.
