Blood Matters by Aviva Bel’Harold

Blood Matters by Aviva Bel'HaroldBrittany noticed that her best friend Emily had changed when she came back from spending the summer at her family’s farm. She was sad and quiet and she never ate. When Brittany discovered Emily’s body in her old fort, she could not believe that the cold, lifeless body lying there was her best friend. The strangest thing was that, despite a metal spike running through her body, there was no blood. Even stranger is that Emily begins appearing to Brittany and talking to her as if she never died. Brittany does not want to listen, but when she starts changing, Emily reveals that she is not Emily but an ancient being that was a part of Emily and is now a part of her. This creature has changed Brittany’s body and she can no longer eat. She craves blood. She names the creature EV for Emily Vampire but the creature does not feed like the vampires of legend. All Brittany has to do is touch someone and the creature is able to absorb their blood. Brittany’s best friend Coby knows that there is something wrong with Brittany and, as their friendship changes to romance, getting close to Brittany could cost him his life.

Aviva Bel’Harold’s backstory is an inspiring one. Growing up with several learning disabilities, she struggled just to read and still does. She never believed that she would become a published author but she has and an amazing one at that. Blood Matters is like no other vampire story out there. A totally original take on an old legend that explains how the misconceptions of what vampires are came to be. If you like a little science fiction mixed with your paranormal, you will thoroughly enjoy Blood Matters. Kudos to Ms. Bel’Harold for overcoming adversity and sharing her stories with the world. I can not wait to read more of them.

About Lori

For Lori, being an avid reader was inevitable as the daughter of two English Lit majors. It also didn’t hurt that her Grandmother was a children’s librarian so there were always plenty of books in the house. When she is not reading, she can be found performing in and choreographing musicals for local theater groups. She works full-time for the Federal government and juggles that, being a wife and mother, the theater and still finds time to read on a daily basis. She is rarely without a book in her purse and her husband loves to tell people about the time she pulled out a book and read at an NHL game.
