A Sliver of Shadow by Allison Pang

*****

Moira is in Faerie, dealing with court and the increasingly insane Queen, leaving Abby in charge of the shop and Midnight Marketplace. Brystion is sticking to the shadows in the garden surrounding Abby’s house in the Dreaming. Talivar is giving some seriously un-bodyguard like signals. And Benjamin, Moira’s newborn, is sporting some interesting appendages.

Seems like a normal week in Abby Sinclair’s life, anymore. If something can go wrong, it inevitably will, with much bloodshed and heartbreak. To make matters worse, an attack on Abby goes haywire, affecting all the local OtherFolk and forcing the Queen to close the CrossRoads. If Abby can’t convince the Queen to reopen the CrossRoads, the OtherFolk stuck in the mortal realm will be permanently cut off from their life-sustaining magic. In order to see the Queen, though, Abby will have to travel to Faerie, a precarious place on the best of days. Lucky for her, she won’t be alone. Brystion, Talivar, Melanie, and Phin will be along for the ride, for better or worse.

A Sliver of Shadow, the second book in Allison Pang’s Abby Sinclair series, blew me away. I read the first two-hundred pages in one sitting. There was magic, danger, heartache, humor, and the quippy phrases I’ve come to expect from Allison Pang. The character building, of course, was exceptional. Abby is still headstrong and can be fool-hardy, but she’s coming into her own both in life and in the Dreaming. She still has feelings for Ion, and is learning to accept her feelings for Talivar, but isn’t letting either of them boss her around. Her newfound pride even leads to one of the cutest interspecies bromances I’ve ever read.

The repercussions of the events of A Sliver of Shadow are going to be extreme, and I may have gone on an e-stalking spree had the first few pages of book three not been included. After reading this book, I desperately want to clip some wings and mount them on my wall.

On a side note…THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME WITH THIS REVIEW, ALLISON! I left my book at home, and when I sat down to write this review, my memory completely lapsed on one important bit of information. Allison was kind enough to answer my plea for help on Twitter. SHE ROCKS!!
